30 July 2003 - Indianapolis, IN, USA Concert Review 10 August 2003
Killer electric and mediocre acoustic.

A review by NeverSayGoodbye / eaglemodel77@hotmail.com

This is my second time seeing the boys from Jersey on the "Bounce" tour. I was also in attendance at the Chicago show back in March.

Honestly, I was skeptical about even purchasing tickets for the show in Indy. I assumed I would be getting the same setlist and stage show as before. However, when I heard about the alternate outdoor stage setup, as well as the acoustic/electric format, I couldn't resist.

I realize that many of you will disagree with me but I simply wasn't a fan of the acoustic set. A Bon Jovi show isn't a Bon Jovi show without an intense intro. After the lights go down and Richie, Hugh, and Jon take their seats on the stools...it just didn't seem right. I mean, the set was great and the band sounded tight as ever from a musician stand point, but I'm all about ENTERTAINMENT! It was very difficult to sing in unison to some of the acoustic hits such as "Someday I'll Be A Saturday Night" and "Livin' On A Prayer" because the tempo was slowed down so much. The crowd seemed several words ahead of Jon in the lyrics and it just took the life and power not only out of the hits, but out of the crowd as well. The highlight of the acoustic set was by far "Wanted Dead Or Alive" which heavily relies on the acoustic guitar in the first place. However, I was happy to hear both "Bed of Roses" and my all-time favorite Jovi tune "Never Say Goodbye". I'm glad I got to experience it and do not feel ripped off in any way. At least I can say I was there. Not many can.

As for the electric set...this brought more life into the crowd. Jon didn't really seem as energetic as he did back in March which is totally expected as the tour is coming to an end. You can tell that the boys are really wearing down and beginning to save their last gasps for the two upcoming Giants shows. Fortunately, Jon REALLY came alive for the encore and the crowd was very appreciative. A great time had by all!

On a side note. When Jon introduced the band one by one I thought it was really cool how he dragged Hugh center stage to which he received a huge ovation from the crowd. It's about time he starts getting the recognition he deserves. Hugh mumbled something about himself being faceless and after the crowd gave Hugh his praises Jon smiled, turned to Hugh, and laughingly said "Faceless my ass...mother f**ker".

TICO IS GOD!
