28 November 2000 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada Concert Review 29 November 2000
I only have three words :" OH MY GOD"

A review by Marty / martin.hogue@bmo.com

Like Jon and Richie once said:" They say there ain't nobody better ....." I guess they were talking about them !!!

It took them 7 years, 3 tours, 3 band albums and 3 solo album, but they did it, they gave a better show than the amazing one they gave in December of 93 in the old Montreal Forum. I honnestly thought that they would never be able to outshine the performance they gave at that time ...... but finally they did it...

Yesterday's performance was nothing short of spectacular, the crowd was anxious and ready, it looked like I wasn't the only one with high expectation, and we got our money's worth and much more ..... The crowd went nuts when the "Ballroom intro" of One wild night started, and we never stoped 'till the lights went on at the end.

The setlist was pretty much the same as in Toronto, but anyway here it is .....
1-One wild night
2-Bad Name - it's always cool to hear that live version where the crowd sing the chorus
3-Captain Crash - Excellent my favorite on Crush, it's even better live
4-Faith- well Faith is Faith, like it or not !!!
5-Prayer - Perfect !!! The crowd sang the chorus at the beggining, Jon looked really please !!!
6-Baby - Probably the song ( with IML )that rocked the place the most. God !! that one is good.
7-Blaze - Hey where was Aldo ?? That one was backed up with footage of the video- very cool !!
8-Runaway ( accoustic ) - First time I heard that one like this ( I heard about it, but never heard it ), how do they do it ?? They did it with Prayer, Born to be my baby, I'd die for you, and it seems they always find a way to make these accoustic songs almost better then the original ....... they did it again with Runaway, that was magical, beautiful.
9-Saturady night - Really rocked the place too, always liked that one, even better in concert.
10-Thank you - Very good response from the crowd, the guitar was really strong ( as usual !! )
11-Lay your hands - with the little intro by Dave and Tico, Dave got the crowd singing the "HEY"s and Tico was just kicking ass. Jon even got us to sing the chorus by ourselves at the end ( just like in the video !!)
12-I'll sleep when I'm dead/Rocking all over the world - Incredible, with Jon's Hollywood story and rain of little white paper... just Great.
13-Medicine/Shout - The usual end of a BJ concert, but every time it just kicks ass .....

Encore 1

14- The next 100 years - I only have one word for that song:"Richie" ..... That guy is not human !!!
15- I'll be there 4 U - As far as I'm concern, that was the best moment of the concert, Jon was really into this one, Richie's back vocal brought even more energy , and we got to sing the :"ho-ho-ho" at the end while Jon was just going crazy singing .....
last about 10 min. Best moment of the show, it was powerful.

Encore 2

16- Just Older - Hey! That one is good on CD, but it rocks like hell in concert. Even if some persons in the crowd didn't know that one, they didn't have any choice but to jump up and down with the rest of the crowd.
17- Wanted - Well .... the ultimate classic, how can you miss with that one ?? Impossible, you can't, it's just too good.

Encore 3

18- I don't want to go home - Just the first verse, but very cool.
19- Twist and shout - The beattles were certainly not that good doing that one in concert. Lenon must have been smiling up there !!
20- Never Say Goodbye ( accoustic )- Is there a best way to end such a wonderful performance ?? I don't think so......

That's about it ......22 songs and 2h35 min later, everybody was please, even if most of us wanted some more.... but I guess the guys have to rest every now and then !!! Now I just hope it won't take them another 5 years before they hit the raod again ...... I already can't wait for #14 ....
Finaly: best concert I've seen in my life so far, they gave us everything they had, and that's exactly what we came to expect from these guys.
Do yourself a favor : GO TO THEIR CONCERT, you'll never regret it !!!

See ya out there
Marty
