Better than Aerosmith! Who'da thought?
This makes the second contemporary tour I've seen of Bon Jovi's - why? They put on a great show, all the songs are hits, and their shows haven't failed to hit me just right. Unlike all the other big stadium shows, I really was entertained and got past the "I-paid-x-dollars" syndrome - I came out feeling like I just saw my first concert. Both times.
You may not know every single song, but if you're an original fan from way back when, and now you've got two kids, or lost all that hair - whatever - I'm telling you, seeing Bon Jovi is like going to Rock Church. You come out re-energized and ready to take on the world.
This show had a lot of songs about kind of being in a spot in your life - maybe that's why it hit me so hard. Songs like Welcome to Wherever You Are, Just Older, Story Of My Life - They all give you something to wake up tomorrow with. Richie taking the vocals on I'll Be There For You swings between great and totally heartbreaking when you think about a dad and his kid; plus, all those big, fun party songs - you just can't go wrong. The thing I really love about this band now is that they speak to the dreamer and the fighter in everyone, and their message is simple and consistent: You can't beat me, I won't quit, and I'm still here.
Can't ask for more than that. Thanks guys! |
