28 November 2000 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada Concert Review 13 February 2001
They came, they saw and they kicked our ass.

A review by Kingswing / kingswinger69@hotmail.com

They came, they saw and they kicked our ass.

I have seen them all, I have been to several rock concerts all all types, but Jon and Richie really make a lethal combination, and no one does it better. This band is clearly comfortable with their music, their lives, their roles and their success. These are good times.

This concert was electric, and Montreal was waiting and ready. It had been five long years since we had the pleasure of seeing the brotherhood in Montreal. The pretty women were out, even if the demographics of the band fan base and audience attendees have certainly changed. No longer were we soley in the company of the teenagers of 1987 who have aged with time, but we were now in the company of both younger and older fans who needed to see the band up close, the result of a hugely successful CD.

This has been my 11th Bon Jovi show and for all intents and purposes they get better everytime. I've seem them at large venues like Giant Stadium and small ones like The China Club in NY or even Theatre St-Denis in Montreal.

Gone are the days where the band needed a large stage show, or even individual solo time for them to strut their stuff. This band clearly likes to jam and play together and were all within earshot of one another. Jon's showmanship and vocals gets better and better, he has them eating out of his hands, and the band was as tight as I have ever seen, they are all wonderful musicians and having a great time.

As for Richie, the man kicks ass, and made the most of every note, the guy is clearly one of today's greatest guitarists, musician and performer. I was way up in front for the show, as always, but was particularly blown away by 'Next 100 Years', the man was brilliant, he closes his eyes, gets in that zone and lets it go with perfection.

Bon Jovi should go on mention as one of the greatest live acts. How many live acts do you know that give you 2h35min worth of hits, not too many. They make every town feel special as they do Montreal, because they give one helluva show everytime. They are also one of the few performers that give back to their fan club, by way of having them go on stage, give them good seat opportunities, high fives and all, you should have seen their faces, struck by greatness.

Was very impressed with One Wild Night, Captain Crash, Next 100 Years, Just Older, It's my Life, all from Crush, all really done well. Born To Be My Baby and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, Lay Your Hands On Me (big crowd favorites in Montreal for some reason), along with Wanted, Bad Name, Faith, Prayer, Blaze and I'll Be There For You, with Richie adding those great vocals.

Was hoping for a hard cover version like 'Rocking in a Free World' or 'Helter Skelter' and Always, Bed of Roses, but not the case this time round.

Look for a May 18th, 2001 date in Montreal, mark my words. House of Blues Canada, get to work!
