11 June 2008 - Southampton, United Kingdom Concert Review 13 June 2008
Good but could've been great

A review by Arkyf

Very disapointed by the lack of a proper support band ! Nickelback were really good in 2006 and made the build up a bit more exciting. This time all we got was a bunch of enthusiastic competition winners who were dreadful, really cack. I can't even begin to imagine what the standard of the competition must have been like!

So there I was from just after 4pm until 6.45pm watching roadies trying to change lightbulbs to get a duff section of the stage lights working (they failed by the way.)
Then it was time for some live music (mmmm) as promised by the Ocean FM DJ chappy for about the tenth time. Unfortunately for me and I suspect virtually the entire crowd the comp winners then started playing their tortuous set which seemed to go on for ever. I have to admit at one point I leapt into the air cheering madly, but only cos they announced it was their final song. I still can't believe it, no support act(s) £75 ticket, no support act!
75 bleeding notes and nothing:(

But, still really looking forward to Bon Jovi!!
And after the usual setting up on stage for 30 minutes or so. The intro music kicked in the band made their way onto the stage and powered into Lost Highway. It sounded brilliant for the first song everything nice and clear including the vocals but somehow throughout the set the sound engineer managed to actually make the sound worse! Some of Richie's solos were barely audible and Jon's vocal volume dipped now and again and I'm sure the screens werent doing exactly what they were meant to do.
But Tico was on fire all the way through he gave his all, he was awesome, Richie was in great form as well as David who looked like he was loving every minute. Hugh was just perfect on the bass as always. Jon started strongly but faded towards the end, apparently cos of his hayfever. He tends to look like he is going through the motions at times even though I hate it when other people say that! Overall it was a really good set but slightly too short, I would have liked at least 2-3 more songs until around 10.30pm but they ended at about 10.15pm. Ive given each songs marks out of 10 just my humble opinion of course!
