5 May 2001 - Cleveland, OH, USA Concert Review 7 May 2001
A posterior second only to Elvis's

A review by Katie and Lauren / klo5@po.cwru.edu

There has been a countdown in our college dorm room for 67 days leading up to the Cleveland Bon Jovi concert. Let's just say that the guys don't dissapoint after all that waiting. We started off the day by heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to try and catch a glimpse of the guys and to check out the stuff they donated to the museum. It ends up that we caught that and more. It was amazing to be the first fans in the audience behind the press! The five hours of waiting paid off, as we were surprised by a quick visit from Jon himself (he made his way to greet a fan behind the press). Let's just say the handshake he gave us was heart-stopping. After filling two rolls of film in less than 10 minutes (they were only 15 feet away, afterall), we headed to the concert for One Wild Night. The set list was extraordinary. It's impressive that the group has so many hits and such a wide range of talent (not to mention the fact that for two and a half hours they were exactly on key). The outfits were great, the dancing was delightful, and the vocals and guitar licks were superb. Tico, David, and Hugh were fabulous! And Richie was a delight to listen to and to watch. The interaction and chemistry between Jon and Richie was amazing. The two are a good looking, comical duo. It would have been breath taking to hear Bed of Roses (a song dear to our hearts), however, the most amazing - and unexpected - delight of the night came from Jon's singing of I'll Be There For You. We're sure we weren't the only ones in the audience to feel a sudden surge of adrenaline and a rush of goose bumps when we realized he still had it in him to hit those amazingly high notes with a beautiful and perfectly pitched voice. The old classics he added as encores were a blast to dance to! Richie and Jon did a great job playing Tequilla - it was great to see them genuinely having fun jamming! Dibs to all who attended for a wonderful job singing along with Wanted Dead or Alive - way to rock Jon's socks! It's hard to believe anyone could leave that concert not being impressed by their performace. The fact that the guys looked stunning should be enough to impress any female in the country. Nice job with the abs Jon...and the open shirt was definately a crowd pleaser (and a highlight to our night!) New fans and old would be hard pressed to find fault with their performance - Bon Jovi truly is the best damn live show you'll ever see. Accept no imitations.
