31 May 2001 - Stockholm, Sweden Concert Review 4 June 2001
120% pure rock!

A review by Fredrik / fredrik@drycounty.com

This is an evening that will go down as one of the most amazing nights in history, without a single doubt!

Me and my girlfriend came to the Olympic Stadium (who takes 22'000 people, not over 30'000 as someone stated in a review) around 15:00 and the gates were to be opened around 16:30. It was a long 1½ hours until we got into the arena but finally we did. At first I bought myself a t-shirt (A big satellite on it, really cool!) and then went toward the stage. At first we got Sahlene and Mel C as opening acts and francly, they weren't that good. Mel C just seemed out of cue and uninterested, whereas Sahlene actually tried her best (and I liked her better) and put on a fairly good show.

When the boys finally came on stage around 20:00 (a little late) they had the One Wild Night intro and a movie playing on the huge video screens on the stage that looked like the top of the magnificient Empire State Building. And after a few seconds you hear this "Bing" sound and out comes the guys from what seems to be an imiation of an elevator door. They are just standing there for a little while since all the 18'000 people are screaming, shouting and clapping their hands.

The song "One Wild Night" follows shortly thereafter and the concert is on its way. It was a wonderful song to hear
live and it rocked the arena!

"You Give Love A Bad Name" followed and such classics you will never get tired of hearing, just awesome! They continued the hit parade with "It's My Life", "Faith", "Prayer" and "Born To Be My Baby". After that came the first great surprise of the evening, "In These Arms". A song I've been longing to hear live for I don't know how long. So this was for me a great moment. The song that followed was another surprise (and a great one I might add), "Wild Is The Wind". It rocked!!

Then it was time for some new songs and they did three in a row, "Captain Crash", "Just Older" and "I Got The Girl". A fun thing during the first song was that Jon said to all the people in the arena:

"I think all of the scandinavian people are here tonight. Swedes, Finns and I think that I even see Captain Crash over there!!" and then they put up on the video screen a recorded sequence of two dressed out people in an audience symolising the people in the song title. That was cool! After the song "I Got The Girl" was played Jon didn't say it out loud but his lips formed the words "Happy Birthday Baby", for the obvious reason that it was Stephanie Rose's birthday this particular day.

Then we got the traditional ending with "Lay Your Hands On Me", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" and "Bad Medicine / Shout".

The first encore I had really anticipated them to play a ballad, but they didn't. At first I thought that it sounded like "Bed Of Roses" only to moments later realize that they were playing "Homebound Train". My mind went like "?!?!?? That song?? Cool!!!" and it really was a great song to experience live! They finished up the first encore with "Saturday Night".

Second encore we got "Say It Isn't So" which is a song I really really like, and then the ultimate rock song "Wanted Dead Or Alive". After that the band walks off the stage but Jon remains at his microphone and in the spotlight saying: "Haven't you had enought yet?!" The audience replies with: "NOOO!!!!" So he calles back the rest of the boys to the stage and they played "Tequila" and "Twist & Shout". During the end they fired away fireworks and the show was over. They said thanks and walked back into the elevator and the elevator door closes, show's over...

This was one great evening and I loved every single minute of it, although there are some things that really does bother me. Why do the critics have to be so rude and simply put them down like they do? Because of the critics Jon really found the Swedish fans to be illoyal and I think it has come to a line that you shouldn't cross. I just hope in my heart and soul that he knows that it might not be as many Swedish fans as there are in other countries but the fans that exist sticks by them no matter what. So please come back soon and don't mind the critics. We love what you guys do and never want you to stop!

Bon Jovi rocks, now and forever!
