3 June 2001 - Werchter, Belgium Concert Review 5 June 2001
Werchter,crush the faith

A review by aldo ortega / aldo.vanderauwera@lyreco.com

Still having the greatest expectations since the concert in august in Ostend, I doubted if they could mach the show they've put up there but as a faithfull fan I commitede myself to go. The opening act Fred and the healers, my god what was that about, some moody blues?? and then Melanie C,
I agree she's got some groovy songs but if you record it in "C", don't bring it live in "E"-key. I thought that she was doing an impression of Luciano Pavarotti, so low voice for a spicy girl.

At last Bon Jovi, the openingnumber one wild night was oké
but Jon , wearing a jeans with not a zipper but a sort off string, had a minor problem, his string was comming down so after the opening he turned his back to the crowd and while he was fixing his problem, Richie tried to talk it through but it took so long that he ran out of words. The following numbers didn't have the fire and strenght taht they've should have, some numbers were played a full note lower, and the highest notes were always song by the crowd, a good trick of jon, if you can't reach it, let the crowd try, but sorry Jon I don't get payed, 7 milj Belgian Francs to do my best for an hour and a half. In Ostend he sang for two hours and more but I guess he isn't getting younger and now that he has been playing in two Hollywood movies, his group is coming second. But back to the concert, Captain Crash, went up in smoke, Richie started a half note too late so it became something like a reaggae version, and I can assure you, it doesn't sound good. Two songs ahead, the front of house fell out so we only heard the stagemix for at least 20 seconds, and that's 15 secs too long. (=quality crew)
This is the first time that I left the show after the first set, so as I walked through the gate hearing the encores hoping for a better show next time
