17 June 2001 - Cardiff, Wales, UK Concert Review 18 June 2001
Wilder Than A Wild Night!!!!!

A review by Dicka / dicka@the-magpies.co.uk

I travelled all the way from Newcastle to see this concert, and it was well worth the 6 hour trip there and the 6 hour trip back.

We queued up about 8 hours before Bon Jovi were set to come on stage, and it was worth it because we got right at the front, only a few metres away from the stage....which was huge by the way, designed like the Empire State building I think with a huge inflatable mast on the top of it touching the roof of the amazing Cardiff Milennium Stadium.

Before Bon Jovi came on stage, the atmosphere of the crowd was excellent, everyone in a good mood and eager to see their favourite rock band come on stage. The time passed quickly because of how great the support bands were.I hadn't heard of Delirious beforehand,I was really surprised how good they were...a band to look out for in the future, and Matchbox 20 were the second best live band I've ever seen...the best being the headlining band....BON JOVI.

It was the second time I've saw Bon Jovi, the first time was last year in my home town...Newcastle.That was amazing back then, but last night was even better. You could say it was One Wild Night.

Bon Jovi entered the stage in a true, larger than life way that only they can do,and I'll not spoil it for anyone who's going to see them by telling you, you'll just have to go and see them yourself.Their entrance sent the 50,000 crowd wild, and they began with One Wild Night, and then went straight into their 80's classic,Raise Your Hands.Richie Sambora was on top form on the guitar,so was Tico Torres drums,David Bryan on the keyboards and Hugh McDonald on the bass.

One of the highlights of the gig was the rare performance of Always.People say that Jon can't sing this anymore...but trust me,he can...better than ever!!

Wild In The Streets and It's My Life also got the massive crowd jumping and singing like lunatics,as Jon covered every inch of the stage, and Keep The Faith had it's usual effect of getting everyone singing, and Richie gave it his all on the solo, getting a huge cheer from the crowd.

It came to the end of the gig nearly, and Bon Jovi played Wanted Dead Or Alivem, letting the whole crowd sing the first verse for them, and played an energetic Livin' On A Prayer after that, which everyone reacted to in the normal way.

The band were making the final bows when some Welsh lunatic ran on the stage with an inflatable guitar and said something in the microphone, but the crowd noise was too deafening to hear what he said.Bon Jovi couldn't finish one of their best ever gigs like that,so Jon and Richie stayed on stage and played an emotional acoustic of their Slippery When Wet hit,Never Say Goodbye. That was really special because they never play that, especially acoustically at the end of a gig. With this, the crowd knew it was over, and couldn't ask for more. Not one person could've left that gig disappointed, and I left amazed at what I had saw, being only a few metres away from the best damn live act in the world!!

I'd just like to say thankyou to Bon Jovi for all the years of music they have given us,and for a great night in Cardiff last night.

If you can,you should definately go to a Bon Jovi gig....I have been to 2, and they have been the most fun nights of my life.
