23 August 2000 - Stoke-On-Trent, UK Concert Review 27 August 2000

A review by Moo Moo (dont ask)

The support acts kicked off at around 5:30 with Andreas Johnson who after about ten minutes of awful sound quality finally sang the only song most of the crowd knew 'Glorius'. After the crowd applauding for effort only he thankfully left the stage oblivious that the screams and half way through his set was due to Mr Bon Jovi himself being sited backstage wearing orange trousers which are best not mentioned for fashions sake.

Toploader where next with only two major crowd pleasers 'Dancing in the moonlight' and 'Achilles heel'. Unfortunatly this was overshadowd once again by the band repeated use of the phrase 'did you like that' (plus other variations on that theme) as if to reasure themselves that they had talent.

Finally after a long wait and several Mexican waves (which were applauded not only for effort but also the fact that almost everbody in the stands participated.)Bon Jovi finally appeared a bit later than expected at 7:45 they opened with the usual crowd pleaser 'living on a prayer'. The first song to be played from crush was the exellently Pop 'Captain Crash...' which Jon Bon Jovi forgot the words to and gave a look to the crowd which said 'I'll carry on playing and they won't notice...but god I feel a idiot'. After a couple more classics from old and new albums the band launched into 'Lay your on me' which was the cue for large inflatable hands to grow up onto the top of the stage in time to Tico's exellent drumming. next was the very lively 'I'll sleep when im dead' which had an interval half way through for the band to address the crowd with a rather fastly spoken tale of Jon's acting experiences and a cover of Status Quo's 'Rocking all over the world'(which was rather good)The band finidhed the opening set with 'Bad Medicine' and 'shout'. The band then left the stage to return about five minuits later with a change of clothes and two more songs 'Next 100 years' and 'Blood on Blood' after which once again bows where taken and the band left the stage only to return once again this time with cowboy hats and a two final song 'Wanted dead or alive'and 'keep the faith'. Then the fireworks came with a chocking amount of smoke. All in all it was a good show and apart from the rip off prices of the souvenir T'Shirts, programmes and Posters. I can only hope the band wont wait another four years before touring again.
