Ditto. It would be good to have some North American mods just because of the time difference issue.

Like moderating is some sort of a tough job? You need to learn to moderate? Come on, anyone with a mouse (no pun intended) could do it. It's more about finding the right person for the job. BTW, it's kinda sad that you have to nominate yourself.

Well for starters I wasn't nominating myself, simply using myself, Becky and Carli as examples of who some of the current demi-mods are.

If others are up for it then it would be good for new people to be appointed, just that these people have already done it for a while but only a small part and it might be nice for some of them to do the full thing.

Also people go on about it having to be people from the US due to the time difference, well I could be wrong but I'm guessing that some of the current mods, who are no longer here often, are being demoted, albeit into the new usergroup of JT VIP, so there will need to be people from all over the world appointed.

Not that it entirely matters, but there is only one mod here from my timezone, me!! We have Kev, Goose and Chris from across the pond. Of course that shouldn't be a deciding factor, but that is why some people are pointing out the timezone difference.

As for being demoted, I really wouldn't call it that at all. These mods have asked to resign due to time constraints, so having them part of the VIP group is a way for the regular mods to still benefit from their advice when they are around.

It depends how many members there are from each country too. Are most people here from Europe? If so it would make more sense to have more mods here.

I don't think people should just be suggested though, as they may not want to do it but having been nominated by others may feel a certain pressure to do it. It would be better to have people suggest themselves. I used to want a position on the team but no longer do, as I have just started my own board and have to moderate that.

Nosey me...

May I ask what the VIP forum is and who the mods that are being 'demoted' are?

Most people are from Europe, but that doesn't mean that they always post during "normal" hours. Regardless, the timezone thing is a minor factor, but I do understand why people are mentioning it.

People who are being nominated can PM one of us and tell us that they don't want to do it. I doubt the pressure will get to them. LOL I think that you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. :P

VIP forum is for former mods, like Mike, who have resigned due to time constraints, but will still be able to give advice to other mods regarding board situations. In other words, they lose their "mod powers" but can still access the mod forum where we discuss issues about the board.

I don't think it's a case of who we all think would do a good job, it's a case of who's willing and able to do a good job. Suggesting people therefore isn't the best idea, but people themselves applying for the position if they feel they could do it.

Neil, the entire point of this is to have a "people's mod" which means that this person is elected by the members of JT. It isn't brain surgery, therefore I feel that anyone elected can handle the position. If they don't want to, their name will be taken off of the list of nominees. It is quite simple really.
