What do debates and moderation have in common? Why shouldn't the moderators be allowed to have discussions with others? The only time a moderator shouldn't be allowed in a an argument is when (s)he would delete or edit posts (s)he doesn't like. Moderators are humans , they should be allowed to do anything they want. If one can't keep in line there are others to take care of that. I don't see a problem with a moderator debating or discussing.

As for people who've suggested me, thanks. If I'm chosen, I will take the job. But if I'm not allowed to debate or share my opinion, I won't be a moderator. Anyway, thanks for thinking of me.

No you got that wrong. I definately do think Moderators can be members and fight their cause along with everyone else. Im all for them putting their opinions out there. What I meant was they cant just dismiss say someone whos a backstager or someone they dont like on personal basis. They have to moderate an argument and not take sides with their friends. They cant be calling people names who dont agree with them.. they have to be seen as being fair and approachable is all I meant.

Myself personally I pity anyone who moderates a fiesty board. Im too much of a bitch to be nice about it all.

A mod is just a person, and should be viewed as such. With this many moderators, I don't think there's a reason to be worried about fairness of the mods decisions. If one makes a mistake, someone else will fix it. And as to being approachable, well, on likes the daughter and some prefer the mother. Which is to say, there are many moderators, if you don't like one, then approach someone else.

I like this kind of thing - what is the exact translation of the original saying?

It can't be translated _exactly_ but it's something like "one likes the daughter and one likes the mother". Or something. The basic idea is the same anyway.

I think where the mod lives should be taken into consideration, if we have so many in Europe then we need others across the pond or in different time zones to cover the moderation levels across the board.

Quite often I will come on here and there will be a bad message etc that needs moderating and I have to look at the time to see what mod I can reach that I stand chance of contacting due to the time zone. Surely mods/ or prospective mods should roughly say when they can be on the board and use this to help with the decision ?

I am a mod on another board and I think its important for mods not to be sensitive or easily angered, especially on this board , oh yes and to not be drunk to often GOOSE !!!!!!!!!!

I have to say I know Brooke , Goose are full mods. Im used to Kev (who always moves my posts ) and Becky who has been here forever and is very knowledgable. I can think of others but to be honest I dont know if they are already mods, is there a mod list somewhere....

Finally its not easy being a mod and quite often the people you begin to moderate resent you having the moderating power and anyone considering moderation should be aware of this. Theres no room for favourite poster friends when moderating.

I think SOME would take their friends side because basically that is human behaviour to agree with your crowd of friends. Sometimes you have to make unpopular decisions. If you can do that.. go for it I say.

B) Moderators may just be people but they have the responsibility of moderating conversations they dont get personal and start calling people names etc as that defeats the whole purpose. If the Mods are complete jerks what the point of having them?? What are they going to do??? How are they going to help? Im not saying they cant voice an opinion or state their views. But I dont think they can act like the local troll and start abusing people.

Ive been around many many many many boards and this I guess is how I see people who are the best moderators moderate. Meh if this board wants it differently they can.

Im just voicing my opinion on the qualities I think make a good mod. The dont have to be a suck, but they need to be able to think rationally and logically.

good luck with it.
