If I'm not mistaken the delete option appears when you actually want to delete the last message. You can't delete a message in between other, I think.

uuuuh people stress up over here lol
about the hidden status, i use it myself, i've got my reasons, whoever got a problem with that can go up to the sdmin and try to convince him to disable it.

Aloha !

Believe it or not but there was a time that when my status was shown suddenly all the backstagers logged in to check if I would post something negative about Jon. If I did, I got 5 replies in one minute all bashing me. That's why I hide my status now, I can't take the comments from backstagers anymore.
