Yes, Spotify would not reflect the song's popularity at the time (because of timing as you said), but it still reflects the songs' overall longstanding popularity, especially in the context of Bon Jovi top 10 songs, because other songs it "competes" against were also released way before Spotify. So my point was more about why Thank You was more popular in general than some people realize, and Spotify is simply one metric to track / prove that.
