If you're a band with a reputation of having hit songs and no one's bought your latest record, no one's heard any songs of it on the radio and unless the song is a monster live, no one will actually care for the new stuff.

People only want to hear the new stuff if the album's actually any good, or enough people actually enjoying it. And frankly, any album cut of the eighties records work better than Born To Follow, Lost Highway, Because We Can and the likes, which is kind of telling considering more people will probably have heard the latter.

In 2003, despite the disappointing quality of the Bounce record, there was a buzz before the shows of people talking about hearing new songs. Everyone wanted to hear Undivided, Bounce, Hook Me Up and The Distance. Now can you imagine anyone saying "My oh my I hope they're playing Because We Can!"?

Well, I've read people here saying "Hope they play 'Pictures of You' or 'I'm with you' or 'What's Left Of Me' or 'Beautiful World'".

The thing is, because of people that want to hear the hits, we have this static setlists.

I don't see the point on paying more than twice to have the same setlist over and over again.

Yeah no sh1t people on this board wanting to hear new songs, they're the die hards who have actually bought this record.

I'm talking about the people actually going to the shows. The conversations you're overhearing when queing or getting into the venue, the conversations you have with strangers you talk to when waiting for the gig. It's been a long time someone actually mentioned a new songs to me, most people are there for the old stuff. There's not been a buzz for new songs since the Have A Nice Day record.

You're young, I reckon you've seen about 1-2 shows in your life, so have little experience as to what it was when Bon Jovi were actually a popular band, still charting and creating a buzz whenever they came to your country. This is not me being derogatory, but just talking from experience. I'm quite sure other longtime fans who have queued up several times know what I'm talking about as well.

The static setlists have little to do with being too hit orientated. There's plenty of hits left out, it's just a matter of Jon (no longer) willing to play them. What you get nowadays is a collection of new songs and album cuts that only seem to make Jon's willy grow, and he adds the 15 hits just so he can get away with it. Yet he could still play the same 15 hits night after night and then mix up the b-section of the setlist, but he's no longer willing to do that either.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Indeed, I have only seen the band once and it was a blast. But the setlists they're playing now aren't different to the one that I had on 2010, so I'm not excited at allmto hear the same songs with a weaker Jon and without Richie. I was planning to travel and see them in another country, as the 2011 Tour was so great, but now, I don't think I want to do that anymore.

About the band being "big", you're right too, I don't remember much I only know the blast that was It's My Life, One Wild Night was a moderated hit here and Thank You For Loving Me was number one, all the time on the radio and on MTV. Then I remember hearing the TLFR on the radio sometimes, and then the massive hit that was Have A Nice Day, with Welcome being audible, not not much here. Then a silence until Memory that had a lot of radio playing and finally Because We Can that, as much as I hate it, I've heard it a lot on the streets.

I didn't live the biggest Bon Jovi era, but I can see that they're not as big as they were before. No way they're getting 3 hits of an album like they did on 2000/2001. People will just forget about Because We Can and this album will die here, like it happenned with The Circle.

Still, why doesn't Jon play those songs? Because he doesn't want to? Because he can't? (no pun intended) Or because he wants to please the casuals? I really think that it's a mixing of the first and the later one. I really think that in his delutional mind, he's sure that Saturday Night was a bigger hit than Something For The Pain or that Memory was bigger than This Ain't A Love Song and that someone gives a **** about We Weren't Born To Follow.

It is ****ing bad if it replaces BOBITA or prevents the band from representing all albums of their career.

I am all for artists playing new songs. They should, if they have new album. But, 5 new songs in a 25 song concert is the MAXIMUM I can tolerate (basically 20% of the show).

You realize that you're the only one that says "BOBITA", right? Also, to me, those two songs are replaceable in a setlist. I love them, but they're not Livin' On A Prayer or It's My Life.

Yeah, but he/she has been doing that for like 10 years and everyone is used to it by now anyway.

It's still weird. I don't remember what it means half the time.

In terms of the songs themselves, they both sound like shit live now, so they can be left off for all I care.

That's not true. During both of my shows Because We Can was up there with the biggest hits as the best crowd reception. I was stunned by how the crowd just ate it up.
Born To Follow also got a great reception. I'm not saying it because I'm defending someone, it's just facts.
