Ah right. I've heard Jon mention steroids but it was around the SWW/NJ tours and that it bloated him. He definitely referenced that.

They were still full of the youthful exuberance back then. Jon was 32/33 and was focused on just having fun with the band.
I'm not the same person I was back then (I would have been 20/21), and Jon and the rest of the band are the same. Marriages, children, divorces, terrorist attacks and so on - they all changed what each member of the band stood for.

I was fortunate to spend the best part of a day with Jon between the two legs of the tour, when filming The Leading Man and he was a totally laid back guy, cracking jokes, chatting about the missing lyric book for what would become Destination Anywhere. I'm not sure he would be anything like that if the same opportunity came about now.

The problem is, that now comes across in live performances...
