I think what might have hit home to the band is the fact that the album didn't have one successful single from it anywhere.
At the end of the day, no radio play with your singles = poor album sales.

I think the 'success' of the album has been over-hyped in America anyway. Had the album gone in at Number 2 with the same numbers sold there would not have been all this hype about how successful it has been. The sales are on a par with HAND in America, but because that only went to Number 2 that seems to have been forgotten.

I agree, while the LH record, in the US, was targeted to the country music audience, at least as far as the singles go, they've been played by mainstream radio, NOT country. MAM is still in the top 5 on the Billboard Recurrent AC charts but none of the singles released have made a splash on country radio. So, in the US, I do think the expectations are that sales would be MUCH better because they thought they'd tap into that country market but that didn't happen. Country radio is very much a clique and Bon Jovi are outsiders as far as they are concerned.

At least in the US, single spins and album sales aren't necessarily a one to one relationship. There are many singles that get a ton of airplay, Lifehouse, for example, and the record still just does "okay". And MAM, has been very much a success in the US. Like I said, the song is still on the AC recurrent chart, nearly a year after it's release.

I don't think anyone has forgotten HAND. It had a hugely successful tour and I would say they are very proud of that albums success as well.

I just think this was there we don't know what we are doing here and who this album is for album and were just happy that it did what it did wherever. I don't know I am just happy its inspired them to tour. I bet all you people going to shows are as well.

Jon deliberately chose MAM as the first single knowing it wasn't what people would choose or the "hit" single. He wanted that song to showcase this album first off.
