Default 7800 Fahrenheit is the ONLY Bon Jovi album.

Here. You have it.

Sounds distinct from anything that was on the charts at that moment, melodic yet extremely heavy, razor sharp sound.
Tico and Richie different level all together from anyone in glam metal at that stage (maybe Ozzy, Scorpions and Judas Priest had even better musicianship at that point)
3x David Bryan co-writes.
1x Tico Co-write
Minimal outside writing (Secret Dreams has maybe one outside writer I think?)
Heaviest record in the catalogue.
Bizarrely, sounds the least dated of all their albums (together with These Days and Crush maybe)

I genuinely think it's the only album where you can say "Here, this is Bon Jovi the band as a musical unit that does its own thing". The first record was maybe too Jon Bongiovi teenage southside johnny.

Slippery When Wet, other than Wanted Dead or Alive and 1-2 other mediocre songs, has not a single organic song on it - all of it are genius constructions. -
New Jersey is a bigger budget version of Slippery When Wet.
Keep The Faith was consciously engineered to be appealing as broadly as possible. These Days was the answer to Grunge. Crush was the answer to the Backstreet Boys. Bounce was the answer to Creed and Nu Metal. Have a Nice Day is maybe somewhat organic again but full of cliches for that stage in their career. Lost Highways is their answer to Nashville selling CDs. And after that I have no clue what they did...utter junk basically, so it doesn't really matter.

So, here's to 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit. The album that should have melted the face of Rock but, for whatever reason didn't.

Except for some aspects, i see a lot of personal opinions about BJ albums.

I like the album 7800° Fahrenheit, but Jon didn't like it for some reasons that he has explained...

I like 7800° Fahrenheit, but saying it doesn't sound dated (the production sounds horrendously dated, the songs were miles better live) and HAND sounds organic has lost me big time along the way.
However, it surely will fuel some discussions, so that's good

I agree, it sounds dated. Slippery and even the debut album sound less dated to my ears.

I said this before, with a better, more energetic production this could have been killer album.

And oh.. Running For My Life should have made the album, check it out on: https://backstage.bonjovi.com/studio/collections/demos

If you can listen to the intro of "To the Fire" and say "this is timeless" in all honesty? God bless ya, but I don't hear it.

7800° sounds a LOT like Survivor (the band) circa Eye of the Tiger and When Seconds Count. It's a good album, though! AFAIR they tried to go heavier since they felt the metal crowd was more likely to buy albums?

It was management pushing them in that direction. And yeah because they calculated that was going to be the most succesfull path for them.

And Alec really liked this heavy direction. I think they listened to him quiet a bit in the earlier years because he was older and played a crucial role in bringing the band together. Later he became just an afterthought and their music slowly went downhill.

Listen to American Heartbeat, Half Life and The Hardest Part is the Night. And that's just from the top of my head. The whole vibe is similar.

Ok some keyboards remind me a bit of Hardest Part en also To The Fire. But Survivor has got overall a more AOR sound. Some great tunes though, thx for reminding to listen to them. I remember how much I liked Burning Heart when I was a kid.
