Remember that theory I said I was working on about Sex Sells / Crush a couple weeks ago? It's something a bit like that ... seems that Jon was writing quite a lot of almost sleazy sounding blues rock -ish songs around that era, sounding almost like Van Halen or Aerosmith songs ... look at Aint' No Cure For Love, Crazy Love, I Could Make A Living Out Of Loving You, Temptation, Two Story Town and One Wild Night to an extent, and probably others

I wonder a) what inspired that style of songwriting at that particular time, and b) why for the most part they decided to almost completely leave those sort of songs off of Crush?

I would certainly like to know the answer to those questions as well. Remember them for when you get a chance to ask Jon, lol!

I LOVE theories like that, Interesting.

The problem is, you have three distinct eras of songs. The sex sells demos, the songs Jon wrote alone for Crush and the ones with Richie. I don't know if I'd put Crazy Love into this, it's far too poppy to be included. The early songs from Crush, I find, are WAY more diverse that what ended up on it. Ain't no cure for love and Temptation especially. For as much as people dog on Crush for being very "paint by numbers", there was a bit of experimentation, it just didn't make the record. And what did was just the elevator music on OWN I guess, heh.

Hmm, I'm curious to know if anyone else has heard of this tracklisting. Anyways here were the songs that would have been on Jons:

Crazy Love
Gimme Some
Good Ain't Good Enough
Hush
I Can Save The World
I Got The Girl
Older
Rich Man Living In A Poor Man's House
Real Life
Shadow Dancing
Stay
You Can't Lose At Love

Heh, I love them too

I included Crazy love mainly based on the bridge, the whole "get out of the way, no no no, get outta the way!" bit

I'm a bit confused actually ... Sex Sells was originally Jon's solo album, that I know ... did it then go on to become a band project that was essentially a different album to Crush?

I recall reading that Jon said in 98 that he was writting songs that may end up for the band or may end up going towards his next solo record then at some point, the solo record was ditched and Sex Sells becamse the next band album. Yadda yadda yadda, the song was dropped, becaome One Wild Night, you know the rest.

What Im not clear on, is at the fanclub party where he debuted the demos, was that where he said it was for either the band or solo record? Or was it assumed to be just for his solo record. I'd have to take a listen to the mp3s to check sometime. Becky, you were there, any thoughts?
