You exagerate, I've seen lots of vid's from Keep the Faith, New Jersey, Slippery, 7800 tours, and heard lots of bootlegs, and there is never an obvious, constant fault in the bass playing. He wasn't on top form sure, but he added something else to the band that Hugh doesn't.

Also, if he really was that bad, the band should have realised that they needed to put in somebody who could do Alec's job.... i.e more than just play the bass. They didn't, and now they are not firing how they should be doing...... Also, there is a world of difference between say Richie, or Jon going on stage drunk, and Alec going onstage drunk. And that shouldn\t offend bass players, David could make mistakes as well, and it wouldn't be that big a deal, as they are not the main layer in the music, and have simple parts. But like I said, you're just going off what the band said, if you actually listen to the shows, you'll realise that things weren't bad, just not as good as they could have been

It's well documented. The band has said in many interviews that Hugh has been on the studio releases since Keep the Faith. I believe they talked about it on VH1's Behind the Music. I think that they held on to Alec so long to keep the "image" as Mike McRock would like them to, which is fine for him, but I don't want to sacrifice the live show for showmanship. Bon Jovi pride themselves on their live shows, and if you have someone not carrying his weight then it's time to cut them loose. You can't afford to have poor live performances in this business, touring is where they reach their biggest audiences.

You'll see increadible showmanship... i.e Vai jumpes at his second guitarest, each takes hold of each other's guitar, and they do tapping whilst going round in a circle.... The showmanship is there in buckets (what do you expect with Billy Sheehan on bass), but the musicians doing it are pretty much the best in the world... My point, you don't need to have one thing or the other. Watch the way Emerson used the Hammond organ, showmanship, but also best player in the world!!!!!

Bon Jovi could have replaced Alec with somebody who was just as good a showman, but a more consistant, better bass player. But they put in the king of dullness, which made the live show less dynamic, and excitting.

A performance isn't just in playing your music. If you stand in one spot, face the same, it's not a good performance.... Obviously it's about the music, but you have to entertain as well, and I've seen enough live acts to know that bands who feed of the audiance, and who genuenly love playing, and pushing their music are the best live acts... Hugh is dull and boring to watch, and gives a dull and lifeless performance, at least there was somehting a little edgy about Alec.... Get rid of him for sure, but replacing him with a stuffed teddy bear would have been more excitting that Hugh!

Again, Hugh is a really good bass player, but he's just in the background. They're playing a man down. I think Jon either needs to tell Hugh to let himself go, or replace him.
