Both of them are poor in comparison of the other ballads the band have done, when you look at:

Silent night
Never say goodbye
I'll be there for you
Bed of roses
Always
This ain't a love song
Lie to me

The problem is that they have done the ballad formula so much better than TYFLM & AALY. Even some of the ballads on the box set kick these two into touch. They were chosen purely for the fact that JBJ thought they would do well, he was wrong IMO.

I agree that MAM is much better.

"To everyone saying they were crafted, that's not really their only problem though.
Let's face it almost every song by a band like Jovi is "hit-crafted" to some extent. Hell look at TAALS, anyone who doesn't think that the success of BoR and Always didn't influence that song and it's place as lead single off of TD is nuts IMO. But TAALS is a great song nonetheless, something TYFLY and especially AALY can't claim IMO"

You´ve got a point in there, I have to admit.

I´m so sorry. It´s just me with the computers: the lines above were a quote of Crushgen24/88´s message. That doesn´t show anywhere in my message.

I´ll be more careful next time.

I remember when I listened to Crush for the first time and "Thank You For Loving Me" came on. I was so confused by the cheese-factor of the song and didn't like it that much. Later it grew on me, and I found some grandeur in its simplicity. Now I simply love it and it has its place as the last real BJ power ballad next to all the other great ballads. Of course it's a lot more crafted than "Bed Of Roses" or "This Ain't A Love Song", but it works for what it is. A cheesy BJ ballad.

"All About Loving You" is another chapter. If TYFLM was crafted, then I don't know how to describe this one. It's pure formula, conceived for radio when you look at the running time and its weird that it ended up on the album AND as a single. The band didn't even like it. It really seems like this songs was produced to please the people who connect BJ to their love ballads. Jon very much said so when performing the song with Richie in a german TV show called "TV Total" back in 2003. Girls were screaming, adn he said "and just for people like you we put this song on the record".
You can figure that I didn't like this song at all. But with almost every BJ song it grew on me with one year time. So once in a while when I listen to it I really enjoy it. I would never put it up to the Olymp of BJ classic ballads, but hey, it works for me (though I have to admit, I want to write the band better and more heartfelt, therefore less crafted songs).

I think that if both TYFLM and AALY ain't good because they're (like people said) crafted in a way that for them to work u need huge vocals from Jon, which he couldn't deliver and adding the extra cheesy lyrics I believe it's downhill from there, Richie is a very emotional guitarist, if the song doesn't move him the solo show that lack of feeling.
Take Dry county for example, the solo shows. Take Always for example, the extended solos show too.
Now MAM is another story because it's crafted in another way, much more intelligent to suit the band nowadays..

I'm really not sure about this I just said, it's just a thought..

(I don't like MAM even one bit anyway)
