This will sound insane, but I have wondered if I heard Reunion at 18 if it would have altered my life. Maybe I would have made better decisions or had better reactions to certain things. Music speaks to me and there were things I needed to hear 25 years ago that I didn’t.

I'm in my 40's and NSG is far more superior than Reunion... Not even comparable...

A very good list, and a great read. I honestly have never even heard of most of the power station years songs, so this guy is clearly knows his stuff. Each fan is different, so it's impossible to read a list like this and not find something to disagree with unless you write it yourself. With that said I have plenty of quibbles- Captain Crash, Next 100 Years, Edge of a Broken Heart, When We Were Beautiful, Story of My Life, Last Cigarette, and some of the DA songs standout as being ranked too high. Other songs are ranked too low- Brokenpromiseland, It's My Life, Undivided, Only Lonely, and Runaway stand out.

Save the World last is an interesting choice that I can't really argue with, as it always gets skipped when I listen to Crush. That said, I always skip She's a Mystery as well, and that one is ranked #244, so there's a bit of a discrepancy. Dry County should at least be in the top 3 and probably number 1, but I'm not going to argue with Wanted in that spot (Prayer would also be an acceptable answer)

Another interesting observation: The lowest ranked song on These Days, My Guitar Lies Bleeding in My Arms, is ranked 71st. That's really a testament to how great of an album that is!

Agree. Reunion is modern day Bon Jovi crap.
These lists are always going to cause debate but there is a reason the last few albums are at the bottom of the list, and for good reason, they’re not very good.

Nope, you’re not an adult. Can’t be if you prefer NSG

I’ve always loved the guitar solo in NSG. It even features a bit of tapping from Richie which isn’t a technique he often uses. Let It Rock has some, can’t think of many others.

Also, I love the end “goodbye” vocal. C5 maybe?

As for the rankings, it’s all subjective. I HATE Joey, others really like it. I like Bounce, some think it’s forced, regurgitated crap.

And so it goes on.

Anyone brave enough (or have enough free time) to make their own list? I'm tempted.

Can we agree that NSG was a weak song 30 years ago and Reunion is a weak (I'm being generous here) song 30 years later and move on?

There are bigger fish to fry

The ranking itself is useless, everybody will have theirs. The comments are the point of the article and from the little I've read, they are well written and there's a slight snarkiness in some that I really dig.

He does have a bias against post Richie stuff, which is fine, but he should have given the albums another listen to write more than a couple of words about every song. You can say something is shit but it kind of weakens your argument without really saying why. But I get it, those albums don't deserve his time and I'm OK with that.

I love the Wanted comment. Spot on and a really fair no 1. I still can't believe they skipped Wanted in the HOF. Argh.

Don't be shy

I wouldn't go through ALL the pre BJ songs. There are some goodies in there and it makes sense to analyze the early influences but you really need to have a lot of time in your hands and I'd rather spend that time listening to solo albums and the boxset. And the demos.
