It's quite funny that you presume I have only been reading here since I started posting on this account. I actually have been reading this board pretty much since it's inception and did post a few times under a different username god knows how long ago, but I couldn't rememember my old password and my email had changed so I set up a new one.

Hence the reason I'm fully aware of all the personalities here from before my days as Thinny, and the fact that your dislike of Richie goes waaay back, unlike some here who only started to hate him after he left the band....

Edit: Actually just found my original username in the user list and I signed up for an account in September 2002, so you only beat me bay a few months Beccy!
I remember coming to drycounty.com back when the home page was the band picture that was used on the special edition version of These Days!
I think there was possibly a different forum/chat room before this one? Anyone remember?

That said, I would have liked Jon to have marked a new and renewed evolution, in the eighties they were impressive and passionate, in the nineties they reinvented their sound and style, deeper and introspective, and in 2000 to date, change for a type of sound more simple, but effective and that is satisfactory but many years in the same area of Conford has taken their toll.

I believed for a moment, that with the departure of Richie, having Phil on board and the problems with the label, we could see a new reincarnation, but I was wrong, it's another post2000 record with nothing new to offer, same script, same tics, except for a couple of punctual songs, but that was even typical of post 2000 albums, having a couple of highlights on the album or as a bonus track. The only thing different is that Jon has gray hair.

I agree with a lot of this. KTF was such a departure from NJ and then came TD. They were a band maturing and growing. I get all that was 25yrs ago and people change and lose some of the fire.

I don’t necessarily expect a return to those quality albums but a change in direction given the change in circumstances? I think that was a missed opportunity.

123. "Satellite," 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong (2004)
This track soars with mature lyrics and a strikingly refined guitar solo by Richie. Listed as a 1999 recording on the band’s official site, but the chorus howl by Jon Bon Jovi points towards the Keep the Faith era.
Trying to remember all the boxset dates discussions, was this one established as KTF era?

It certainly doesn't sound '99 on first listen, but if I had to guess I'd say I have no idea! It doesn't sound KTF at all to me. The tone of the voice, the lyrics... Compare to Letter to a Friend for example. It almost sounds as if it could be really a Sex Sells demo

No, there's no way it's a Keep the Faith era track. It's definitely a 1998-2000 era song. Jon's vocals are outstanding on it, but it's quite clearly from the Sex Sells/Crush era.

I've seen it often incorrectly identified as a Bounce-era song, and I think that's literally only because the title of the song and the Bounce album cover.

I think it was in the boxset DVD that Richie said something along the lines "why did we leave this one out, was it because it had lyrics that were "too profound"? (I'm completely paraphrasing here, I can't remember the song but I think it was for Crush)

This is a case of self-fulfilling prophecy. They failed to reach the masses with a "deep" album, they figured it their audience would never grow with them, they didn't try to take a risk again. And every time they released something out of the norm -TLFR,boxset- (with very little promo, but who cares about logic arguments) they've been proven right so why bother.

I edited the Wikipedia page a couple of years ago with mostly the official years that came from Obie's list and Satellie is apparently from 99 so that would be Sex Sells/Crush as you say...

Thanks for updating that info! I don't trust Wikipedia for small details like this, so I didn't know how accurate was. BTW on Wikipedia it says that Satellite was written with Desmond, but ASCAP says only Jon&Richie though.

I didn't add the songwriters, that was already there on Wiki, along with the tracklisting. I just added the relevant years/periods, so I'm not sure. I would expect ASCAP is correct, but probably best to check the box set booklet?

Here are the box set years we worked on last summer. We traced back everything to their original sources for proof. We are confident on the 6 in blue, just no back dated proof..
