Also the way TD was compiled and production fits in perfectly with the lyrical content. It still has a good flow altough songs sounds differnent production-wise (Hey God --> Something for the pain as example)

TD is the only BJ album that actually has something to say
I disagree with that. Especially when you say that TD is the only BJ album that has something to say. What about KTF and the songs that are on there. Are you trying to say that Dry County, Little Bit of Soul, Keep the Faith, etc are all meaningless? I think TD was step down from KTF in my opinion. Don't get me wrong it's still a great album with some very good songs, but I think BJ hit their peak around the KTF period. You just have to look at the songs that were ditched from that period such was Starting All Over Again, The Radio Daved My Life Tonight, Why Aren't You Dead, Save A Prayer, etc.

it ain't the best but i don't struggle to find worse...

'i hijacked a rainbow and crashed into a pot of gold'

all of 'put the cow back in cowboy' (intentional mistake)
e.g. They should have put her in the movies
My little country cutie

When I met that little filly

At the rodeo she kissed me
Then said "boy don't get too frisky"

- i had to not post the whole song so i didn't pull this whole thread off topic

I know this thread is changing rapidly - but I gotta say this!!!

My other favourite line is from "Price of Love" where it is mentioned about " he runs to his wife, and you're left holding the knife!!"

Extremely melodramatic lyrical brilliance!!! But you can't be too critical as it was early on in his career.

For great lyrics, see anything in "Dry County".

Default these days

I agree with the above sentiment - These Days was the last great Jovi album, from beginning to end. It was raw, honest and meaningful. Nothing has touched it since, Destination had its moments though.

The biggest gripe I have in the 21 year relationship I have had so far with Jovi is that because the yanks didn't buy it, Jon has consigned These Days to the rubbish bin of history when infact it was, and still is, their defining moment to me. Their whole career built up towards it and has faltered for me since.
And then I heard Lost Highway. THEY ARE BACK!!!!! Love the sound, love the lyrics, love the honesty. Intrigued as to how much input they actually had on the songs or whether they took them from Nashville writers and just changed the odd lyric here or there.

Now, if only some of the These Days songs could find their way back into the live setlists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the lyric too; the song is one of my favorites. The whole song is about finding strength in the faith of your choice and being strong until you do so without saying "it's my life" a thousand times. And it's about realizing that believing in the established beliefs and crutches of your past or of other people (drugs and religion specifically) are not what you need or who you are. I find the record extremely inspiring actually not somber; finding strength and power and spiritual satisfaction in the individual and the real/concrete is quite an idea.

Oh I always liked that line. I just interpated that the line before was a question and this was more a fact (not sure how too explain)

If I don't believe in Jesus, how can I believe the pope(?)
If I don't believe in Heroin, how can I believe in dope

It's the way those 2 lines are sung hence the questionmark, like saying I don't believe in Jesus but I do believe the pope next door and what he is saying. On contrary I don't believe in heroin, but I sure do in dope.
As a sort of contrast what is being showed.

The next two lines are equal and referring to the 1st and 2nd.

If there's nothing but survival, how can I believe in sin (?) (relating to pope)
In a world that gives you nothing, we need something to believe in (relating to dope/alcohol)

Anyway, again not sure how too explain but I always found that set lines brilliant.

Ooh and thinking of it now how appropiate. I know Jon said ones he writting this song for Richie relating to drinking

Each to their own. Someone mentioned before about the line "I hijacked a rainbow and crashed into a pot of gold" that it wasn't a favourite.

I actually like that line. Sure it's cheesy, but the way it is sung I think is pretty cool!!!
