Short (and probably pointless) story - I recently bought a new car. One day about a month back, a car dealer called me. I have Bon Jovi answer tones on my phone. He started talking to me, and turns out, he was a roadie for the band in 1987 when they toured with Cinderella. Also was a roadie for Motley Crue during the Girls, and Dr. Feelgood tours.

Anyways, we spoke for about 2 hours and he told me Bon Jovi was the only band that wasn't doing drugs in those days. He did say Richie was notorious for having sex with lots of different women, but the only one who really got into drugs was Alec, and drinking was Tico. About Jon, no surprise, said he was the most serious, focused, straight one of the whole bunch.

As for Motley - Well, according to him, everything we've all read in the biographies, TV shows, interviews, rumor mill, isn't exactly as it's made out to be - He said it was far worse!!!!

Not exactly. I suggest you read his book, where he himself tells the stories. He did eat brownies that were laced with dope, but that's hardly drug use and he did in unintentionally.

Yeah man, its quite shocking to hear, because I too have heard and read in a few places that bon jovi were one of the bands not to do drugs etc, and I don't know how richie could do show after show being high. theres no doubt they did it a bit, but I'm finding it hard to believe Richie was a full on coke head lol ... i mean you're right its partly because he's a guitar idol of mine, but as i've said before, he doesn't look, sound or act like the kind of guy. he must smoke, I mean you're voice can't be that raspy if you don't smoke

I find it more shocking that JBJ smokes, considering his voice and all.

I just more associate heavy drug/drink guitarists with people like slash and kirk hammett, i mean i've seen alot of their shows on video and you can see they have been completely out if it, and their playing has been mashed and is all over the place.

But richie always seems to have been on the mark, like at wembley 1995, on first watch i thought he was pissed haha but I really can't see it as his playing was pretty much untouchable.

Well, addict or not, It doesnt change his playing for me, my other favourite band is Pink Floyd and i'd be a fool to believe that they didnt take drugs!! hah.

I remember back in the 80's this used to bother me SO much. The idea that they could be on drugs was so devastating to me.

Looking back on it, I can't believe I ever cared in the least bit.

Maybe it had something to do with youth. My daughter still can't listen to her long time favorite band (Barenaked Ladies) since Steve Page got busted for coke - and subsequently left the band.

It does separate, in a way - unless you do drugs yourself. Of course, the very idea that the musicians whose music you like share a lot of ideals with you is kind of flawed anyway.

That's still a sore subject for me too.

A few fans of The Dave Matthews Band had similar feelings. It was as if they had been shit on from a great height.

Do you remember why that was? Just being curious!

Is that with or without the make-up?
