I am with you keeper.

I don't see the stalker idea in Always at all - if that is really what he was writing about .... then Jon has serious issues......

He wrote it for a movie Romeo is Bleeding. Watch the movie and the song makes a little more sense.

The guy in "I found someone" is NOT Richie. I just saw the video a few days back on TV. Or is there a different version of it in the USA? The guy in the video here has short hair, Richie had long hair at that time. He looks a little bit like Richie, he's the same kind of guy, but it's not him.
I don't even think the guy in the video for the song looks like Richie.

But I wasn't talking about the video at all. It's a "live" concert at the Mirage on video. She actually lip syncs through it..but it is a live show. Though not important to the topic. Anyway..during I Found Someone they intercut the performance with footage of Cher and Richie. I haven't seen it since it originally aired back then.

Is there anyone else, anyone else at all, that likes the song better since Jon said that it was about/semi-about a stalker?

I think the song itself isn't much about a stalker ... Just a great love-song to me ... I think he ment the video as that's is pretty clear

I agree..I don't think he was that serious or literal in it being about a Stalker. Nor do I think that idea makes the song better. The emotion in the lyrics and vocals is what makes the song, though I'm convinced most people really don't pay attention to any of that and just write it off as a sappy ballad, which it isn't.

The lyrics capture the manic emotion of someone in post-break up who hasn't let go. He's self depriciating and completely depressed while still holding the other person on a pedestal. He is still attached even though the other person has obviously moved on.

What kills the whole idea that it's about a Stalker is the fact that they did have a relationship, which it seems he screwed up....most likely by infidelity. It only has Stalker elements due to the fact he is still attached.

For the last time people, stop using the video as a means to translate the song! The video has absolutely nothing to do with the song and is nothing more than an MTV idea geared towards adolescents with immature ideas about relationships.

a. Jon said this on the Bograta TLFR show
b. why isn't anybody treating it as a joke? Jon wrote this for a movie- and designed the song for the charachter- after his explanation I finally understood the video clip...
And if that's his explanation - why not take him on it

He also said that it's nice that the fans see the full half of the glass - but somehow most of us keep on regarding the song as a love song- my guess is because :
a.It's a beautiful melody,
b.the lyrics do sound like a love song - the real explicit lines which you can associate with another guy are :When he holds you close...

But another quastion for you - I heard twice Jon twist a line around-
The original lyric goes: It's been raining since you left me
and I heard: since you left me It's been raining
(once on a n acoustic studio release, and second on a SNL performance)

Anybody know why or have an explanation?
