The band themselves have confirmed that it was Richie & Dave. It was on the Q&A before the site was changed.

If you choose to believe something else, it's your problem. It's like believing that Alec played on studio albums even when Hugh's confirmed it was him on all albums except 7800. Or like believing that Mars actually has little green men.
