I'm with Mongoose. The whole magic is about hunting the album down in the store and bringing it home... locking myself in, and then listening to it via headphones or the big speakers on full volume. I'm keeping away from reviews of those who have heard it, as I don't want my opinion being shaped by that. Of course I've got a pretty good idea about how the album's gonna turn out like from the snippets, and that is actually quite exciting.
With this album I listened to ALL the snippets, usually I would just listen to a few from a forthcoming album to leave some surprises for the release day. But this time I couldn't withstand the temptation, and I don't regret it. If I would download it now - THAT would ruin it for me though. It's boring to go and buy the CD when I know it complete already... not that the music wouldn't be good, but BJ deserves a special treatment.
And it's true... we couldn't download "These Days". The Crush Tour was the last for me where I had no idea what they would/could play on the concert, from then on I had pretty good ideas how setlists would look like, as I had read them all. That took a bit of the excitement away. Like when they played "Runaway 2000"... the moment when I realized what they are playing it was this "wow" moment. It's two sides of the coin... because with all the setlists in my head I would even more appreciate it when they changed it on stage to play something rare.
But I miss those pre-internet days a bit. I guess I'm conservative on that matter. In my utopia there wouldn't be such things as downloads before the release. Of course it's unfair that some countries get it first. So I understand US people, as they have to wait 2 more weeks.
Each to their own. For me the wait is easy - I'll join "The Circle" the day after tomorrow.
