Luckily, for the audience, too, Bon Jovi awakened the crowd at the Nokia Theater from their group coma. The group seemed like the first to sing live, without corps of dancers, fireworks, and other paraphernalia to mask their insufficiencies. Once Bon Jovi worked its way through its new single, you could see the audience actually leap up and start dancing to “You Give Love A Bad Name” (corrected–sorry!) and “It’s My Life.” It was like a jolt of plasma.

I have to agree about the coma before they came on, lol!! I've always said that if not asked by the record company to put out another GH there would not be one, it has nothing to do with sales in the US as to why he gave the "commitment" answer.

Why would any artist ever want to put out songs they've already done? Especially someone like Jon who clearly doesn't want to live on past glories. I don't think he has been sulky or childish during any of the promotional efforts for the GH, which have been fairly substantial it must be said, on the contrary he and the band have seemed in good form through out it all.

Greatest Hits packages are like clip shows in television; there used to be a time when they were warranted but with all the technological advances in the last decade there is really no reason why a GH needs to be released.

These days the Greatest Hits albums are done by artists that had nothing else new to offer and dwell in the past, or those that just want to make more money.

It's the record company, not that artist, that makes the real money from sales of cds. And seems all artists are being asked to put out GH cds, look at Pink.

As annoying as it is to sit through all these other pretenders to the throne, watching BJ playing alongside other bands really puts things in perspective.

So this is the state of American popular music? Thank goodness I won't have to watch the rest of this.

Yes, but BJ will make money anyway, because they still own all their publishing rights. Back when they first signed, that was standard procedure: record labels only valued the publishing rights of Top 40-oriented acts.

Remember the fuss when the New Jersey government wanted to use Who Says You Can't Go Home in a tourism commercial? The record label said it would cost them $175K of what would have been New Jersey taxpayer money. But since Jon and Richie still owned the publishing, I knew something could be worked out: at worst, the band could pay the money themselves, then deduct it from the label as a business expense. The next thing you know, you're seeing New Jersey tourism commercials featuring Who Says You Can't Go Home!

P.S. It's not unusual to see a lot of GH albums released during the holiday season. Hardcore Bon Jovi fans may have no "need" for one, but their friends or loved ones might consider it to be the "perfect" gift for them!
