Default American Music Awards Transcript 2004

Here is a transcript from last nights show

Before the actual show, I watched the red carpet arrivals and saw a brief interview with Jon. He basically just talked about the award they were going to be getting, and how nice it was to be in such good company (of those who have won this particular award before), and then he talked about the box set briefly and made a mention of the new album. I have to say that he was looking sharp in his dark brown pinstriped velvet suit. He was wearing sunglasses while on the red carpet, but to me, that just added to his overall look. He looked really good.

On to the show...

First Nicolette Sheridan and Eva Longoria (sp?) came out and made an introduction to a video timeline of the band's career, which was quite nice. They played a bunch of short clips of the band's videos that they've done over the years. During the clips, there was text on the screen, of different countries they've played, number of shows, number of albums sold, and the last one was 100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong.

After the video timeline, the 2 women introduced the band for their performance (and the crowd was really loud with applause and excitement, which was cool!)

The band performed It's My Life (the original version, not the TLFR version), and I have to say that I thought Jon's voice sounded exceptionally good. After It's My Life, they gave us a sneak preview of Have A Nice Day from the new album.. OMFJ!! That song ROCKED!!!! I can't wait for the new album!!! All of the guys looked great!! They just rocked!

After the performance, the entire band, including Huey , walked over to the podium where they were presented with the Award Of Merit. Nicolette Sheridan read off the inscription to the band... Here's the transcript, which I found on Backstage. I cleaned it up a bit, but thanks goes to the girl that posted it over there.

-----------------------

Nicolette Sheridan said:

This is the 31st award of merit presented at the American Music Awards. And.. quiet please.. And it reads: "For being the embodiment of rock music for the last 20 years, for inspiring countless musicians to follow in their footsteps, and for elevating all of us with their musicianship and artistry."

Then as she handed the award to Jon she says "This one's for you"

Jon's speech (which was awesome!):

Thank you. I’d like to thank Dick Clark and Larry Klein for this, uh, surreal but much appreciated award. And I have to read some people off the list. My parents. Thanks mom and dad. You were good enough to let your kids dream and I know that you must be very proud of us tonight. I want to thank Dorothea, who put up with me, who loved me when it was easy, and who loved me even more when it was hard. I thank you for that. There’s a lot of others I need to thank. Jerry Edelstein that’s been like a father and a friend and always the voice of reason. ?? Alper. Eileen Shriveman, who’s always had my back.…. And Paul Korzillus. Paul, your selfless dedication to my dream is so appreciated you’ll never know. We’ve been through so much together and it’s not over yet. Bill Harper, Joy Deretiger, Rob Light, Chris Halston, Bugsy, ?? bMike Rew, Scott Casey, and our crew.

To Obie O’Brien the one who reminds me it’s all still worth fighting for. You’re a real friend and I thank you.

Now to our record company Island/DefJam, once Polygram, now Universal, the only label I’ve ever recorded for. Thank you. You're a loyal bunch of guys who allow me to do what I want, when I want and you continue to believe. So for Dick Asher, Elan Levy, Jim Caparo, Lee Arcaro, and now Eliot Reed. I thank you.

And where would I be without the guys in the band?

To Alex Such, thank you for your dedication.

To Hugh Mcdonald, the best bass player any band could ever hope for I thank you.

For David Bryan, we’ve gone from the basements to the bars together since we were sixteen years old. I know big Ed is smiling on you tonight.

Tico Torres, the grownup of the band. Tico once said to me "you know I must love you I’ve been staring at your a$$ for 20 years." Thank you for pushing me, pulling me, keeping me big.

And Richie, Richie Sambora. Richie, I’m honored to call you my friend. We’ve done a lot together. You are always looking out for me. And I appreciate that. You are truly my right arm. I thank you.

I gotta give a quick shout to our kids: the baby Hector, Colton, Gabby, Lilly, Ava, Stephanie, Jesse, Jake, and Romeo... Who are in fact our greatest hits.

And finally to our fans 'cause the reason we’re still here... is because you believe. Even when I couldn’t you gave me the chance to dream. So may all your dreams take you wherever you want to go.

Thank you. God bless you. And good night.

---------------------

After Jon's speech, they cut to a commercial, and that was it for their appearance. All in all... it was great! I'm so glad they got this award. They deserved it. And I was SOOO happy to see Huey up there at the podium with the rest of the guys. It's about time! HOWEVER... Huey wasn't handed an award like the rest of the guys. Now I'm not sure if he got one backstage after they left the stage, but I felt really bad that he was standing on the stage empty handed while the rest of the guys had an award in their hand. But, Jon did give him big thanks in his speech. I just really wish he would've been given an award on stage too. That bothered me.

But.. it was great otherwise.
