Default Another Tom Petty Impression.

seems jon's writing is really impressed by Tom Petty's songs, there have been discussions here about that before, like Thief of hearts that's similar to "Learning to fly" and "I won't back down". and also Love ain't nithing but a four letter word with "Refugee".

Now i found another one, its about Two Story Town, i always thought that the concept was an original one, but today i heard the Tom petty song called "A One Story Town".

just compare the choruses yourself:

Bon jovi's "Tow story town":

It's just the same old sights
And the same old sounds
I'm gonna take my car and drive out of this two-story town
The same old ship is goin' round
I'm going down, down, down, down, down
In a two-story town

Tom Petty's "A one story town" (from 1982 album "Long after dark")

Oh, I'm lost in a one story town
Where everything's close to the ground
Yeah the same sh!t goes down
Nothing turns around
It's a one story town

The concept is the same, even some parts are the same.

Listen to Queen of New Orleans and Petty's Last Dance with Mary Jane- very close so I think you can count one more.

never made the connection of new orleans and last dance with mary jane though they do have really similar chord progressions.

Jon's a big fan of tom petty so there's a chance he nods his hat to them now and again which to be honest, isn't the woirst artist to borrow from.

2 story town has such a standard chord progression that it is very similar to a number of songs eg. Save tonight by E.E.Cherry, the passenger by Iggy or What if god was one of us buy Joan Osbourne.. but its still unique enough i think not to be a ripp off (the little guitar bending fills etc)

Then theres JBJs midnight in chelsea which is basiclly his version of Bruces streets of Phil.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I wasnt talking about the music, i was talking about the lyrics and its concept.

and i don't agree with Queen of new orleans and Mary Jane's last dance.

JBJ's useless trivia: I've been told by a couple of people I sound like tom petty at times when singing. Plus we've covered every song you listed there at one point or another except two story town. you should've heard our 8 minute version of save tonight with epic break down ending. *orgasm*

Symbolist poetry/art from the early 20th hundred.
The space: a small, sometimes overindustialized city
Theme:Same things happening over and over again until they drive the poet/artist mad. Extreme boredome. Nature in agony. Illness and sickness in the same two story town.

There's a hundred year old poem by a Romanian writer which is called Two Sttory Town. The firts Story is about the poet sitting in a graveyard. The second story is about the poet sitting next to a dead woman with her broken wings...

Well...Tom Petty was probably influenced by Symbolism!
