We dont want live verions of the same songs, extra 20 seconds play out at the expense of unreleased songs.
imo - when you re-release or celebrate an anniversary you release EVERYTHING that was recorded for that album - whether its a good or bad demo, 30 second clip of them trying something, clips of working on riffs/lyrics and the booklet should be of photos of lyrics/tabs.
So for me...
Disc 1 - full album
Disc 2 - demos , outakes, ideas etc
Disc 3 - full live show from that tour
booklet - full of photos from recording sessions, lyric sheets and the tour.
Id buy that in a heartbeat. Dieheards want this. Boxsets are only bought by die hards as a casual isnt going in to a shop to spend £75 on a band they like 1 song from.
A favourite band of mine, The Wildhearts - do this thing where they float an idea - everyone signs up and buys it - then they make as many as ordered so no one wastes time and money,
Ironically, their album in 1995, PHUQ, was also meant to be a double album but label changed its mind. So a few years ago they put the feelers out for who was interested in a re-release of the double album as it was intended to be - in a triple vinyl velvet boxset with a big book where all the band members write about each song of what they think of it, what it was like recording it, how they got the sound, stories of what was going on in the band at time as by time original came out someone had left and all ideas for the artwork etc - the cost was £100. I ordered one immediately - its fantastic.
re Jovis re-release SWW and Debut Im not buying the album again with live songs weve heard and 6 mixes of the same song.
