It's not. This doesn't matter if you are a small band or a band that has sold 50 million (I've worked with both), most of them want to avoid controversies like this. What normally happens is that someone from the record label will arrange to meet the artist at their offices with the items, or they will arrange to spend a day at the record label and do the signings.
There are literally companies out there who verify signatures, and they can tell fakes from genuine ones easily.
When you start to deceive your fan base on things that they are spending their hard earned cash on then it's game over. Out of everyone they are the people that you need to look after. Taylor Swift knows and understands this. If she can personally sign things, then so can Jon Bon Jovi for heaven's sake...
