I take it these "signed" copies cost more than the regular ones?

If they did, then yes, I'd expect them to be genuine. Otherwise, why charge extra?

I've worked with many bands for over the last 25 years, some pretty big bands, and NONE of them have ever sold fake signatures on products that are advertised as personally signed.

It's dishonest.
Yeah, and from what I understand, autograph hounds are vigilant about trickery. Like if Taylor Swift was using autopen, we’d know about it. To her credit, it seems like the stuff she puts out is legit.

It seems like what Bon Jovi did was be equivocal with language—they touted the albums as being ‘signed by Jon Bon Jovi’ but avoided saying ‘handsigned’. Considering the instagram posts showing Jon signing a room full of albums though…. They knew what they were doing.

How is there a difference between "signed" and "handsigned"? If it's printed on, it's not signed lol

I don't really get how people think they can tell between the real or fake ones, none of the things I've read have actually given a reason for saying they look fake. I think it could just as easily be someone trying to stir up trouble for the hell of it.

I'm in the UK and have one from the "original" batch and it looks fine to me, but I have no idea how an autopen one would be different so who knows. It's a shame they didn't make the cards CD sized but I struggle to care that much!

The way the autopen works is that his has a handful of signatures (usually 6 or so) that are then copied on each signature. There can be slight variations on each one due to the angle of the pen or paper etc, but experts can tell when there have been a batch that have used autopen. Bob Dylan is one artist that got caught out last year for having autopen sign some of his artwork prints.

There are no printed signatures on the Bon Jovi signed items. They are all written by pen, but they are being accused of using autopen, which is when exampes of the artists signatures are loaded into a machine and then a robot "hand" writes the signature using a real pen. So not hand signed by Jon at all. It might has well been Fred the cashier from the local supermarket that signed them.

I appreciate it is dishonest; no argument there. However, the idea that JBJ (or most celebs) would sit down and sign thousands and thousands of CDs is far fetched. My default assumption in any situation like this is that some intern is being paid $10 an hour to do it.

It's not. This doesn't matter if you are a small band or a band that has sold 50 million (I've worked with both), most of them want to avoid controversies like this. What normally happens is that someone from the record label will arrange to meet the artist at their offices with the items, or they will arrange to spend a day at the record label and do the signings.

There are literally companies out there who verify signatures, and they can tell fakes from genuine ones easily.

When you start to deceive your fan base on things that they are spending their hard earned cash on then it's game over. Out of everyone they are the people that you need to look after. Taylor Swift knows and understands this. If she can personally sign things, then so can Jon Bon Jovi for heaven's sake...

I paid 0.99 pound for it preodering Forever on Bonjovi.co.uk. I expected the signature to be printed on the picture but it looks like it's a real pen. According to this video , it might be genuine.

I don't really care though

Don't offer things you're not gonna sell.

Also, if the autographed copy is like 40 bucks (were they?), even after taxes, that's a lot of money for 3 seconds of work.
