I don't think Jon wants to forget his past and what he's achieved... He just doesn't want to be typecast as an 80s hair metal band and is very selective as to what he releases to the public. Two very different things...

To me it sounds like it was written during the HAND sessions, though I could possibly see it fitting into The Circle with a slightly different arrangement.
