I'm not sure. Conceptually it made sense as an intro to a song with a similar vibe/theme. Also by 1991 they were four albums deep plus Blaze, and two of those albums they were kind of distancing themselves from even then. By 2000 there was a lot more material to pul from in concert. Just my opinion though.

Neither Blood Money nor Santa Fe were really played by the band. It was either solo acoustic or with Bobby and Dave on a rare occasion.

I'm not sure I would've liked the band doing DA songs. That album had its own identity that was quite far away from the Bon Jovi sound and with the band playing it, the songs would've lost just that.

I see your point. But he could've done Janie or Little City alone on his acoustic as well.

Well, Destination Anywhere wasn't the success he had expected on home soil and once that happened, Jon basically didn't deem anything good enough for set lists anymore (Fahrenheit, These Days, Bounce etc) to begin with

But they have so many hits and songs to play, I think back then unless it was a hit the solo stuff and the band stuff were VERY separate.

Well they did Blood Money and Santa Fe on band tours and both hadn't even been singles. I think it simply boiled down to what Jon wanted to do at any given point.

Fair point, yeah. I remember pre-Crush Jon said it wouldn't be right to do a song like Bad Name with his solo band because Richie's not there or something and man have times changed.

I don't think he ever took it lightly. I mean, he has the name of Bon Jovi the man. Him doing Crush with Richie probably really had a lot to do with him knowing what he brought to the table and how much a part of the band's sound laid with him. Like, "yeah, I could just do the "Bon Jovi the band sound" solo, but why not fire on all cylinders if I'm gonna do that?".

Even when promoting Stranger, Richie also said that magic happens when him and Jon write. That also changed - he seems very intent on drumming up his own role; sadly. I think Jon would readily admit to the contributions Richie made, but other than calling it quits, he had little choice once the gauntlet had been thrown down... I mean, we still don't know how it all went down, timeline-wise, who'd forced whom to act whichever way.

Good point. I was listening to I Got The Girl and the backing music just sounded so late 90's and the material Jon was working on at that time. I feel the way it was written is a big reason Crush lacks cohesion. Bounce has that problem too but for totally different reasons. I feel like it wasn't until HAND that it all sounded like a single album.
