The single combination of Have A Nice Day as the lead single followed by Nothing as the second one would have been massive!

I just listened to Nothing and I definitely agree! I remember Jon has commented through the years that he has trouble picking songs for an album.

Nah. Considering the bands popularity and the current music scene, it would have done no better than HAND... In America anyway.

Not sure. Nothing fit the fashionable sound of the time, I'm sure it would have performed better than any song from HAND as a single. But they chose I am over Nothing and once again that was a poor pick...

I agree. I like "I Am", but my first reaction when I heard the snippet back in 2005 was "this sounds like Arvl Lavigne". Nothing is a much more powerful song, it's more Bon Jovi, and Jon sings very passionately.

When Nothing was leaked (with poor sound quality) in net, I thought it would be included in some international or Japanese edition (and thus obtain it in better sound quality), but it didn't happen. Then I was crossing my fingers every time they released an EP single from that album, hoping that in Welcome To Wherever You Are or Who Says You Can't Go Home EP would be included "Nothing" as a b-side. It didn't happen either. Too bad, that song is pure gold for me.

Now the only hope to get Nothing in good sound quality is the 40th Anniversary BoxSet... but my fear is they'll include some early or reworked version of it. The song is perfect just the way it is, it just needs to be released with the same sound quality as the rest of the songs on Have A Nice Day album.

Hopefully the planets align this time.

Nothing's chorus sounds a lot like I Wanna Be Loved's, and I Am is one of their best post 2k songs period.

The whole album was overloaded with them chasing trends and fashions at the time. Stuff like Complicated was mid-2000's rock sound by numbers as well.

Agreed. Not sure why one would take the piss on I Am just because they liked Nothing. There's plenty of songs that could've been left out in favour of the latter. I really don't get why stuff like Wildflower and Last Cigarette was put on there and someone thought "oh that's much better than the album version we pulled last year".
Nothing tends to get the Cadillac Man-treatment from time to time. Or the outtake phenomenon if you will. It's a song not on the album, so it's something rare and people tend to make these bigger than they are. I've read comments on here how Cadillac Man would've been the massive hit single had it been on NJ. Or how Ain't Done Yet is the big classic Bon Jovi song that's much better than all of the last album.
I'm sure Nothing would've gotten a decent amount of radio airplay but that's where it would've ended as well. In fact, choosing HAND with its iconic smirk and Who Says as singles was the best they could've squeezed out of the album in terms of promotion at the time. There's always the tracks we as fans like more and I personally love Dirty Little Secret, but I don't imagine it would've made a big dent in the charts. Nothing might've achieved something on the level of Everyday, but not really much more.

This! I Am and Nothing are both good songs (and I Am is one of my favorites on HAND) and it really doesn't need to be one OR the other. Wildflower and Last Cigarette are way more appropriate candidates to kick off the album to make room for Nothing and, while we're at it, Dirty Little Secret or These Open Arms and improve the tracklist.
