Is it that easy though? Does it really come down to which people are in the band? Has music really nothing to do with it?

By your logic AC/DC is a cover band They've got 3 different members nowadays, including a different singer. Yet they sound like AC/DC.

Bon Jovi have 3 original members and sound nothing like Bon Jovi despite having the original singer.

Bounce have no original members and sound very much like Bon Jovi. They get closer to replicating Bon Jovi's studio sound than Bon Jovi have in about 20 years as Bon Jovi's live sound is very different from their studio sound.

Out of these 3, which is the cover band?

Sebastiaan

This is your definition of cover band,BJ are not cover band by any means.
Every band can sound like AC DC,their music is simple and almost every song from them is the same. Everyone with basic knowledge of music can play AC DC,only is little harder to copy their singer.
You are simply the guy who must be opposite to everyone here.

- Bounce is a Tribute Band.

- The band members in Bounce are not nearly as professional sounding as the current Bon Jovi line up.

- I can sing better than Jon does today so comparing any singer to him is not really a valid argument.

If we compare the two in 1995 (which most agree was not Jon's vocal peak), Jon is a 1000 times better. Not just with notes but with everything listed in my prior posts... Jon roller coastered (no pun) from show to show in '95 but if you compared Jon's top ten vocals from that year to all of Ollis top vocals ever, Jon blows him out of the water... Jon's rasps, screams, jungle noises were off the charts... His tone was raw and he could hold notes like no other...There is a video on YouTube were someone compared him to Mariah Carey and a lot of that footage was from '95... So that's the level Jon should be compared at.

Olli is nothing more that just a very good amateur singer who likes to sing Bon Jovi songs... He's not even in the same league as Jon.

Take the fact that he sings Bon Jovi songs out of the equation and you just have a very good amateur singer... There are so many other better singers out there and he wouldn't even make it through the first round on any one of those singing competitions.

I'd even take Jon today over some tribute act like Bounce. There is nothing like seeing the person who wrote and recorded their own songs. There is a magic that just can't be duplicated...

That's all he does...

We can probably go band to band and find better singers out there than all originals... According to Sebs logic, we should just get rid all all original bands and just see Tributes.

Who needs Paul McCartney when we have The Fab Faux? Who needs Robert Plant when we have Get The Led Out? Who needs Bruce Springsteen when we have Tramps Like Us? Who needs AC-DC when we have Axl Rose? (that was a joke)....

Who Does? Seb Does!!! That should be his slogan when he runs for President. 'Who Does, Seb Does"

You are right. It is okay to be critic towards the band, but all he does is non stop critic, nothing is good, everything is wrong, but he is going to the one or more shows next year, which is nonsense. If you think that BJ are shit cover band why are you going to see them? And then you get his analyse of everything in long writings and expose.Give it up man, there are majority who still love the band with same passion like 10,15 or 20 years ago.

Actually, there are very few bands that can play AC/DC with the right FEEL. You may think their music is simple (and many others do so as well), and while their songs aren't overly complicated theoretically, you've got to have certain types of dynamics to nail them. There's a reason why Phil Rudd is the best drummer of AC/DC, whereas Simon Wright and Chris Slade - while definitely great drummers on their own right - just don't fit the sound of the band overall. Especially Chris lacks Phil's groove that is very much a characteristic element in the band's music. It's like comparing Tico to Rich Scannella.

I know what you're trying to do and usually I appreciate your cheekiness, but this was not one of your finest pieces. A cover band is a band that plays covers, plain and simple. Like Bounce or Kon Chauvi. The fact that many of them sound exactly like the original recordings actually makes them 'more' cover bands, not less. Bon Jovi playing Bon Jovi songs is not a cover band, no matter how bad it sounds (and yes, it does sound bad).

It sounds bad for you,not for all of us. Playing wise they are great, only vocal is up and down. They are tight, strong but couple of you looking for something else, some bonds, how they act on the stage,in the end everything is on Jon,if he is good then show is good,if he is great so show is but there are no bad shows at all, just average/good and great.
