Well, I actually think that his face has aged rather rapidly in the last 8 or 9 years and him having gotten quite skinny is what makes him look old.
And I don't think "he just looks his age". He's looked younger for most of his 40's, yes, but my parents and their friends are all pretty much Jon's age and nowadays he looks much more like my old uncle and his 70+ year old friends. So his 30-years-in-10 aging process is what throws people off, especially those who haven't really seen him in about a decade.
