Sometimes I have these feelings too… I think the’ve lost a big part of their motivation, can be human after 100 million records sold, or maybe because there’s no more that kind of “competition” they could have with other bands in the early nineties…

I’m afraid they stop growing as a band but I got a little flame of hope.

IMO the main problem today is their contract.

I think when Polygram has become a part of Universal in 1999 and they decided to stay with them they’ve signed a new contract….maybe “7 records in 7 years for --.000.000 Dollars” or something like that.
Take a look, we’ve had a new project released every year, Crush (00), OWN (01), Bounce (02), TLFR (03), Box set (04?), Jon also said at Giants Stadium they’ll be back in 05, maybe with a new record?
It’s got to be hard for a band to write very good albums when you must do it.

I don’t know if you listen to REM…I cant remember how many albums they’ve released in the last decade, but, IMO, they only have 2 or 3 good songs per album and the rest only fillers songs. I remember after the massive success of Out of Time or Automatic for the people (a work of art) , I’ve read somewhere they signed “this big new contract with….”
Again, U2 case. They’ve released 2 greatest hits in 2 years!! (10/98-10/00).
Do you think their fans needed this? Today’s music business sucks. In this Jon is right.

One thing really “scares” me…they’ve had a lot of time to write the new record after These Days and what we had was just…..Crush….

I hope they will record another album when they have something to say…I’m not a fan of TLFR but If I have to choose between a new album like Crush or Bounce now or wait 2/3 more years for the new one and have something like TLFR in the meanwhile, I’d choose the second one.
At least TLFR is something different…it’s not the classic greatest hits and the DVD concert is amazing.

A Jon’s sentence to end this topic:

”I don’t want us to become like Rolling Stones…no one buys their new records but everyone goes to their shows….I don’t want to play Bad Medicine for the rest of my life…”

If this is true, there’s a lot of work to do.

They could have retired with how much they were worth at the start of the 90s if they wanted but they came out with these days and ktf.

Like it or not. Even being in a band becomes a job that gets monotonous and boring and they've been doing it a hell of a long time.

easy and cool as it may seem, they probably work harder than the vast majority of us and since music is totally subjective and i doubt they're releasing stuff they hate, then there's not much you cna do.

they're just coming from a different musical angle than you want. thats it

the thing with bon jovi is that they are getting older (not old just older hehhehe). Maybe Jon doesnt want to scream at the top of his lunges anymore. He is 42 years old and lets face it the band has matured since KTF days. Thats what there music style has done....matured, now its up to the fans wether or not they like this new mellow Bon Jovi sound.

it's all to do with appealing to the market today and the way it is they won't bring out another great album. i think they should just carry on the way they were before bounce because i liked crush. why bring out an album if you don't like the music you're bringing out?

wasn't drinking anything last night. I just see happen to look at things how the industry actually works and not how I want it to work.

To me the reason is very clear:

They've sold out!

Who says they don't like the music they're bringing out? Thats an insanely stupid comment. No one will bring out songs that they will play night after night if they don't like them. They write what they want to. Just cos it aint necessarily what you wanna hear....

I think Jovi are still making good music, just not as good music as used and not as much of it. I think Crush and Bounce both had something to offer and had some good stuff on them.

As for TLFR, I think the fact they took a risk, successful or not still shows they are trying to grow as a band and improve as musicians. I think its a good sign. Who cares if a lot of people didn't like it.

OWN wasn't a good live album but who cares when you can easily download a much better collection of live tracks nowadays? I doubt it was really the bands fault anyway.
