Dry County is actually my favourite song, and I see it as lack of faith in life and perhaps desperation and maybe close to suicide rather than any religious aspect, despite those lines Richie mentioned and more.

We can analyse any song from different points of view and see different things. To me Dry County is quite an epic song, a short film almost and would have made a good video had they not cut 1/3rd of it.

I see the main song as having quite a barren and lonely feel, a place that has no hope of a future and very desolate (sp?). Then there is a glimmer of hope, the emotion of the first guitar solo sounds fantastic and is very well played. Then it calms, the calm before the storm, and we gradually build up to what we think is going to be something good finally, a big payoff, and there is the fast paced, exciting guitar solo, but after it is finished it returns to how it was before. Very dull, boring and no hope.

Just my analogy. What do you see?

And Dave's a practicing Jewish. The words "faith" and "lord" aren't used in the religious sense except for songs like "Hey God". And Jons religion isn't too "strong". "If I don't believe in Jesus, how can I believe the Pope". He doesn't even believe in Jesus, what makes you think he's religious?

Jon's using these words in order to provoke emotion. Religion and rock has long been a problem in the US, and by adding references of him not agreeing with churches beliefs could be seen as a rebel act. I don't think there's any religious background to the lyrics.

I am with the consensus here. I don't think that BJ use the words god, jesus and lord in a religious sense.

Yes, atheists use the words god and jesus frequently.

I use oh my god ALL the time and it is not a conscientous outcry to god for help in any shape or form - would be kind of inappropriate in my situations anyway.

And no, it doesn't bother me in the least that they use those words - particularly since I don't view them as a religion preaching band

As most of you probably know my fabourate BJ album is Keep The Faith, which is probably the most religious record. Therefore I don't give a damn as long as they aren't disrespectful of religion. I'm not a religious man myself, but I know that some people who are may be offended by the lyrical content of some songs. Luckily I don't think Bon Jovi have ever offended anyone religiously with their lyrics.

There are a lot of religious and Biblical references in their songs and it doesn't bother me. The entire Blaze CD and Keep the Faith are both heavy on relgious references and those are still my two favorite CDs after all these years.

Aloha !

This is a stupid thread. Dawn is only willing to believe what she's willing to here. The other arguments will just be neglected or not really be answered; The same annoying things most people that are Christian in extreme ways do.

Salaam Aleikum,

I don;t think bon jovi have a religious agenda of any sort going on. Most of their use of word's like God and Lord are there specifically because they're powerful emotive words and alot of their songs is about faith and belief in something, not necesarillu religion.
