i play piano, im currently preparing for my 7th grade classical piano examination. Bon Jovi inspired me to start playing guitar, but i'm just a beginner right now, i can only play some chords ( i finally managed to play barred chords last week ). When i play rock or pop piano i usually sing along but i can't really sing along to guitar fluently because it distracts me and i end up strumming the wrong rhythm, lol.

When i listen to a song i listen with my heart first, if i like it i start listening for the musical techniques ( mostly piano, vocal, guitar and bass for bon jovi songs cos i know almost nothing about drums). A song's got to work for me emotionally for me to like it, i wouldn't listen to a song that i hate again just to pick up the musical techniques(unless the musical techniques are truly amazing of course).

Jon Bon Jovi actually influenced the way i sing, i tend to sing louder and stronger than before . Sometimes i chuck in a scream ... lol... but that really only happens every so often....

I am learning electric guitar since 5 years now , I tried when I was teenager but without result ( better late than nothing but I regret my lazyness when I was younger to have not learnt seriously)
I am not interested to play Bon Jovi songs ,or Rock songs ; I play what I feel now only blues ( may be because I am older ,and need to say with this style of music ,all the things I have in my mind)
i Have also the GAS (gear acquisition syndrom) i own 4 guitars ,waiting for a new one to come..they are all differents (one Fender ,Danelectro ,One Esp Ltd customized with Gibson P94 and Dimarzio DP404 for a better sound ,and a Cort ,the new one will be also a Cort (different shape and pickups)
Of course I love richie sound which is unique

I started playing acoustic guitar when I was 14 years and 364 days old :P I took lessons for about a year. I'm still not THAT great, but I can play alright. I also started playing drums about a year ago, and, to put it mildly, I'm absolute $hit. Oh yeah, and I played recorder in primary school-does that count? I was good at it.

As for listening, sort of half and half. I listen with a *musical* ear, but also without it too. Just because a song has some really tricky chord progression in it doesn't make me admire the musicians any more for it.

Yeah - that makes three of us. I just don't have the time to practice so that I can play at the level that I once used to play. Then when I do have some time, I get frustrated because I haven't practiced for awhile and it sounds like crap. I am still trying to learn the fine art of simply enjoying the time I do have at the piano.

I spent many years studying classical piano and I used to be a terrible music snob. If someone did not play perfectly I got quite critical. Now, I just enjoy the music (unless someone is very bad). You lose a lot of pleasure if you only listen for musical correctness.

Kathleen

Of course you are.
i don't need to defend that claim in the slightest.

there's only a handful of "types" of guitarists.

people who like it hanging on their wall and couldn't tune it if they tried

people who know a couple of songs, some chords n are happy playing oasis, blink or any other band they like

they take up the vast majority of players which as i said, is probably about 80-90%

then there's people who know theory and can play stuff your average hobby guitarist couldnt

then a very small number who are incredible.

i fall into the 3rd category

sayign that, i play my drums way more than my guitars just now.

No, you belong to the category who thinks he's better than the third one. Otherwise the 90% thingy doesn't really hold up.
