My father was in the Vietnam War as well. Fortunately, he made it out. I'm sorry for your loss.
I can understand some of the rules, though. Although they may seem extreme at times, they have a reasonable basis. For example, disposing of the flag a certain way makes sense to me. Who wants to see the representation of their country laying in the trash? It's almost like a piece of the country, so I'd never want to see it thrown away. The same for not allowing it to be laid on the ground. I don't want to see a flag laying in the middle of the street. As for folding, well that's a bit extreme. But I do think it should always be folded rather than crumpled up in a ball. However, I do see what you're saying, and I appreciate your opinion.
