Didn't Alec play on the first album as well, except Runaway of course? I can definetely be wrong on this one but I've always thought that Hugh joined the band as their main-studio guy for Slippery.

Great bass line - in fact it's a very band driven song. Love Richie's (verse) guitar work. Proper solo too.

You're right. At least that's what we know, since Hugh as stated as much. And Jon also said he played on Runaway, but hasn't said anything about the albums pre-TD, if I recall correctly...

lol You have to be deaf if you don't hear the difference between Alec's line in 7800 and all the other songs ever recorded by Bon Jovi! Jon said in one of the promo show that Hugh played on almost every record! Hugh came up with the Living on a prayer's bass line which is one of the most famous base line in rock n roll history. The It's my life one is pretty awesome as well! Alec wasn't able to play those complicated bass lines.... Check out Bad Medicine live with Alec playing it he played it way simpler than on the record! so anyhow check out your facts!!

this quote is from Q/A on the Official Hugh's web site

Hello, My name is Andreas and i'm from Switzerland. I've seen that you worked since the first Bon Jovi Album in the band. But what excatly did you do because the official Bassplayer at this time was Alec? Did you play the second bass or another instrument? Thanks for answering and keep rockin'
I played the bass in the studio.

Hi Hugh!
Since you have a history of being a studio musician, how did it feel being the permanent bass player for Bon Jovi and performing live on stage, the first times you performed live, I mean? Were you ever afraid that the Bon Jovi fans wouldn't accept you? Love, Linda, Sweden
The first few times performing with the band I was definitely nervous. Even though I'd played on all the albums I was worried the fans wouldn't be accepting. Much to my delight, the fans have been great!

I think what we were referring to were wether or not Alec plays on the first album or not (except Runaway). That Hugh plays on everything post-Slippery are pretty old news, yes

During the 80s and early 90s Hugh was the coolest cat in the studio and did amazing work on Jovi basslines. Meanwhile Alec was the coolest cat in concerts and did amazing work maintaining the secret sexdrugsnrocknroll life of Jovi.

Even tho Hugh did most of the bass work, Alec indeed was there in the studio doing his part of the backing vocals. And he wasn't just a concert guy who would show up five minutes before the first show of the tour and disappear right after the last one (although that's what he did a few times..) But he was a good friend, too. What I've understood is that he has no hard feeling towards Hugh and they actually catch up every now and then.
