Not true! Last show of the These Days tour was on July 19, 1996.

Great song imo, I love Jon's vocals on the studio track, they sound angry. And yes, it is a ripoff Rockin' In The Free World but who cares.

I think the fact that it "borrows" some parts of the tune from Rockin' In The Free World is very similar to what the folk singers used to do - nick a bit of someone else's tune to get the point of their lyrics across.

I think it´s the saddest song Jon has ever written. Very beautiful and honest. I respect Jon for writing and recording it.

It´s always been difficult for me to listen to that song. There´s so much tragedy in it.

Or indeed what they still do ... Bob Dylan's Modern Times album has a lot of rather obvious "influences" on there

I always felt that the mood / major key-shift in the chorus didn't fit the lyrics and theme at all. Yeah, RITFW also switches keys at that point, but it pulls it off. This one doesn't.

Not so happy indeed Most people conclusions have been " I would not let my child walk by themselves"

Bu that is part of growing up and growing older. Your kid cannot live in a cotton box and you wouldn't want to either.

In this case, a young girl was given a small responsibility and tragedy happened.

And I can still remember how much being given such a responsibility meant.

A generation after being allowed to walk to the corner to mail a letter for my mother, my niece would get my father's slippers from under his bed when he arrived home. One night, I happened to be in my parents' room when I heard my father arrive and her running up the hall. I thought I was helping by pulling the slippers out from under his bed for her -- and I can still remember the look on her face!
