Geez, Jon... while you're busy saving Philly, could you save a little piece of Joisey? We sure do appreciate it

I thought the Fastlane is already torn down ?!?!

Good luck with the petition. It worked for the Stone Pony so who knows.

I went and signed I'm not sure I understand this why tear down a business that is thriving???? I mean I get wanting to build and sell condos but don't those people need neighborhood places to go out to as well???? Why can't both exsist??? Surely this business group isn't going to lose that much by allowing this club/restaurant which is doing good business to stay.

The way I see it - it's about location. The Wonder Bar is directly across from the Convention center - which is right on the ocean. The Fast Lane is only a block and a half away. It's prime real estate and the property owner will make far money more selling the property for condos than they will renting it out to a bar.

And Asbury Park as a city seems to be doing its best to forget it's past - bulldoze the evidence - and turn itself into an expensive beach community. No history is being preserved at all.

Precisely one of my major pet peeves with Los Angeles.

Ditto. Once you have been there and seen the evidence for yourself....it really makes you sad to think that they are willing to tear down a major area of Asbury Park which was once so popular. Why not let these buildings stay standing, refurb them and breath some new life into them?

They could actually do that AND build new condos. There would then be a small thriving downtown with some nightlife. Unfortunately, the upscale communities being planned and built don't seem to want the "old" nightlife around - too much negative connotation probably.

And the flip side of the coin is the other side of town - what used to be the black side of town. Originally, the riots in Asbury Park were about the failure of the city council to fix even the smallest thing. The sewers flowed into the streets - the streets flooded etc. The people that lived there payed taxes like anyone else and they got nothing. To this day - not one penny has been spent in "that" part of town. It is still being left to rot.

God bless American politics

Kathleen
