My understanding from a friend who has contact with a roadie on the tour is that there was no snow or ice only heavy rain and wind. The guy said the plane came in too hot (fast) trying to maintain proper lift against the winds and heavy rain, and then the pilot couldn't get the plane stopped in time. A Boeing 707 is a big aircraft.

The guy said the NTSB is investigating the accident, and the latest email info sounded positive. Said only the nose wheels went off the runway, but the rest of the plane stayed on the runway. Airport personnel didn’t have any problem getting the 14 passengers off , the plane was removed from the runway this afternoon, and was undergoing detailed inspection.

Frankly, stuff like this happens quite a bit in the entertainment business, you just don’t usually hear about it, unless it’s really big. It’s a very dangerous business because of the heavy, odd hour, and tight scheduled, traveling when you are doing a National Tour. Also there is a lot of total idiots in this business, which doesn’t help.

Several groups have lost band members and tour personnel in crashes, and of course the legendary great Stevie Ray Vaughan and 3 of Eric Clapton’s people were killed in a helicopter crash 8/27/90 right after take-off from a concert they just finished playing. Reba McEntire about bit the big one several years ago, when the nose landing gear on her tour jet collapsed on landing, sending it off the runway at 170 mph.

Now that we know that everything is okay...isn't this sentence funny?? It makes sense though... LOL

Totally agree with that!
I work on GE Trans here in Brazil, the company overhauls and repair Aircraft Engines.
Nowadays the possibilities of an engine failure are very low, when a plane crashes most of the times is due to what they call "human factor"

Jon said on stage tonight that everything was fine, that the reports had been exaggerated. The NTSB always checks out incidents and it is routine to give a tour plane detailed inspection btwn flights so it seems it's not as big a deal as it was made to sound on tv.

I just found out the pilot was a friend of a friend of mine. I'll see what I can find out.

Don't forget that Reba McEntire lost almost her entire band in a plane crash.

Yes, horrible crash, like when Lynyrd Skynyrd lost half their band members in a horrible plane crash.

I have major respect for Reba. That women is something else.

Tell ya what else, I have major respect for Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you have not seen them live, they are incredible! They are currently on CMT's Crossroads on cable. Good show.

I've seen Skynyrd 8 times and never been disappointed. Skynyrd is so good that a lot of bands will not let them open for them. I’ve seen them blow the legendary ZZ Top, Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Double Trouble ( Stevie Ray Vaughan’s band) and Sammy Hagar right out of the arena.

Just the Facts Please - -

Jon is contractually bound to the promoter, AEG Live, to do everything possible to promote ticket sales on this Tour. While Jon would never do anything to tarnish his outstanding reputation, there is nothing routine about this plane accident, it was not exaggerated, nor would the NTSB call it routine. You are once again demonstrating you ignorance.

It was a Boeing 707 that overran that runway. In case you don’t understand what a 707 is, they are large jetliners. For your information, anytime an airplane of that size is involved in an incident of this nature, it becomes an automatic formal investigation by the NTSB, with such investigation taking 6 – 12 months.

thats weird if it was only heavy rain then there shouldnt have been a problem with the landing !!!!!! Perhaps there was a fault on the plane....
