ABOUT THIS BOOK

Bon Jovi is one of the most popular and enduring bands in rock history. For more than a quarter of a century, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, and David Bryan have been tested—by an ever-changing marketplace and the temptations of the heady world of rock—to emerge as international stars. David Ritz weaves together the voices of these musicians in BELIEVE, a richly detailed, intimate chronicle of the making of a band.

BELIEVE delves into the band’s working-class origins in New Jersey, re-creates the excitement of the early days in Asbury Park when Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven Van Zandt were cutting their teeth, and follows founder and lead singer Jon Bon Jovi to his apprenticeship at the famed Power Station studio, where he had the rare opportunity of watching sessions with David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. It recounts the long struggle to get recorded and the phenomenal success of “Slippery When Wet,” the album that catapulted the group to fame. The band members speak openly about the breakthroughs and breakdowns of their grueling world tours of the 1980s, and provide a fascinating, inside look at the group therapy that saved the band from self-destructing in the early ’90s. There are never-before-told stories of Jon’s experiences as a screen actor, as well as insights into his commitment to social and political causes; and behind-the-scenes descriptions of the songwriting sessions that gave birth to some of the greatest hits of the modern era.

Set against the backdrop of the hyped, media-crazed arena of pop music, their story is one of tremendous determination and heart; BELIEVE radiates the positive energy that has been Bon Jovi’s hallmark from the start.

Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant To Perform at BEA
March 23, 2007
By Kimberly Maul

Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant will perform at BookExpo America, as part of
the annual fundraiser benefiting the Book Industry Foundation, which
includes the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression
(ABFFE) and the Association of American Publishers? Get Caught Reading
Campaign. The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, June 2 at Town
Hall, on West 43rd Street, and tickets, which must be purchased in
advance, will cost $25.

Both Jon Bon Jovi and Grant have books coming out this fall from Flying
Dolphin Press, an imprint of Doubleday Broadway. Grant's autobiography,
Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far, is the first authorized book about
the multiple Grammy-winning artist and will be published in October.
Jon Bon Jovi's Believe, co-written with David Ritz, will give a glimpse
into the making of Bon Jovi, one of the most popular rock bands in
history, and will be released in November.

"I am incredibly grateful to Flying Dolphin Press for providing us with
such high caliber guests for our event," said Lance Fensterman, BEA
event director. "Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant are huge acts and it?s an
amazing privilege to be able to host them at our own private gathering.
I have no doubt that the event will sell out immediately and I am
pleased that we will once again be able to provide money to ABFFE and
the AAP for their important work on behalf of free speech and literacy."

Additionally, the show floor of BEA will open early on Thursday
afternoon to those with buyer badges, Fensterman wrote on his blog
earlier this week. Today, he also announced that Starbucks
Entertainment president Ken Lombard will speak on Friday, June 1 at
BEA.

"We are still working on details, but this is an exciting addition to
the program as Starbucks is clearly becoming not just a coffee company
but a culture vendor as well," Fensterman wrote on his blog. "It will
be interesting to hear from Lombard where he plans to steer Starbucks
literary ambitions. No word if Sir Paul will open for him!"
