Not sure of the exact lyrics of the pre-release but the first verse has a girl running away from home ("Couldn't stay one more day in a house where innocence was stolen away"), juxtaposed with a guy leaving home for different reasons ("He left home off to war / Don't know why or what for").

Second verse is similar to the first verse of the final release. No church fields and dirt in the pre-release version.

But to me the pre-release actually had a point to it and was therefore a better song.
