Default Best ballads on an album??

I am going for 2000 onwards because this is when the band changed etc IMO. So which album has the best ballads.

so here goes.

Crush:

Thank you for loving me
Save the world
She's a mystery

Bounce:

All about lovin' you
You had me from hello
Open all night

HAND (Not really a ballad album):

Welcome to wherever you are
Wild flower
These open arms - added as on Japan release

Lost Highway:

Make a memory
Seat next to you
Till we ain't strangers anymore

What do you think? I think in a way LH looks quite strong comparing it to the other post 2000 releases.

Maybe next time I will post pre 2000.

Aloha !

Thank You For Loving Me and Save The World both are ballads, even though they are weak compared to what they used to come up with before. Still, Save The World contains powerful vocals, but there's no way Jon could pull that off live, not even on the Crush Tour. She's A Mystery isn't a ballad either, but just a very slow song.

The ballads on Bounce are simply shit, All About Lovin' You is a rehash of Thank You For Loving Me, and the other songs are, well, shit. You Had Me From Hello had it's lyrics nicked from Wonderful Tonight, and it's melody from one of those Backstreet Boys songs. Open All Night is the only ballad that qualifies as a good song to me, even though it's a bit boring.

Have A Nice Day doesn't have any ballads, and listing the slow songs as ballads doesn't make much sense to me.

Lost Highway is the only album out of those that has ballads that work, and don't sound like they're written in a way of which they thought they had to sound like that. Still, there's no way I'd take any post 2000 ballad over a pre 2000 ballad.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I enjoy the Crush ballads, Save The World most.

The best post-2000 ballads?

'Thank You For Loving Me' & 'Make a Memory' are the only two worthy of note IMO, with TYFLM just clinching it.

Hey Everyone..

Best post 2000 ballads are definitely Thank You For Loving Me and Save the World. They come from the same formula that produced Bed of Roses, Always, This Ain't a Love Song, I Want You, Santa Fe, etc.

Til We Ain't Straingers is pretty good too but in a different kind of way. Same formula just the numbers have been slightly jumbled up.

Just my opinion anyway.

Cheers
Steve

The best one is Thank You For Loving Me, for me one of the line of great love ballads but the last one I really love Stay instead of all the crap they produced after Crush (including LH of course)

I didn't realize it yet, but there is nothing decent in there... really not. MaM comes close to it but....

Just a quick glance pre-2000, Never say goodbye, I'll be there for you, BED OF ROSES, Lie to me, Letting you go etc.

Crush - Thank You For Loving Me - Typical structured, blah blah blah song. Decent.

Bounce - Is Right Side of Wrong a Ballad? Dunno - but superb as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, You Had Me from Hello.

HAND - Wildflower. I like the 'message' of this song. Made love to it...

Lost Highway - Make a Memory - I love the braveness of the simplicity, I also love how it's so positive, avoiding the chiaroscuro feel of the These Days ballads.
