I like the In And Out Of Love riff. I think it's great, and I like the live version on OWN even better.

Of course nobody can forget the opening riff to Wanted. That is a masterpiece and it still sends chills through my spine. I'd love to be able to play that. Maybe someday I'll buy myself a guitar a learn how to play some BJ.

Since I don't play the guitar I don't know if it actually qualifies as a riff... But the beginning of Wanted, the "descending" bit with the acoustic guitar, still gives me the goosebumps every time I hear it. Especially when it's played live. There's something in that riff that goes straight to my soul, I don't know how else to describe it.

Also, the acoustic (?) intro of Stick To Your Guns is very very good too... And there are many other great guitar and keyboard riffs in Jovi songs as well. Like the piano intro to Bed Of Roses, the keyboard intro to LYHOM, Runaway and I'd Die For You, and the guitar-and-keyboard (??) intro to Dry County. Etc etc etc.

First of all... The intro of Wanted doesn't qualify as a riff... nor does BTBMB... Riff is a musical piece that is repeated, in rock usually in chorus or verse. Wanted has an intro or a passage or a lick, but not a riff. BTBMB has a bass line that's doubled on the guitar...

But that aside, I think LYHOM and Damned are very near the top... Tokyo Road has one of the best too, as does Raise Your Hands.

If BTBMB doesn't count as a riff then surely LYHOM can't count for the same reason you said - its just the bass line, is it not?

No... Ever heard LYHOM? It's one of hte best Richie riffs ever, with dropped-D tuning. Bass doesn't even play close to what the guitar plays.

In BTBMB the guitar doesn't play anything in the first verse, there's just bass. The guitar comes in in the second verse, playing exactly the same as the bass, only octave higher. So no, it's technically a riff, it's a bassline.

Aloha !

Iceman said it right. The intro from Wanted isn't a riff. I like the one from Raise Your Hands too, and the beginning from In And Out Of Love on the live CD is great.

Hey, just saying what I see on the Crush DVD - Hugh plays pretty much exactly what Richie plays. And I know LYHOM quite well, and I know its in Drop-D and I can play it perfectly well thank you.
